I’m a math person but the IGETC minimum Math offerings at all the CCs are like Common Core - confusing!
Happy Easter
@lindyk8 thank you so much for your help today! you are amazing! hope you had a great easter with your family.
I completely agree. Prior to joining my honors program, I had seen two general counselors. The first counselor was basically a “okay, here you go, now leave” type person. The second counselor was probably the worst experience I ever had. It was my first semester and I had no idea how any of the transfer stuff worked. So I told him I wanted to be a psychiatrist and transfer to UCLA. This is what he told me… “You’ll be ‘stuck’ here for three years opposed to two years doing pre-med courses and then you’ll transfer out to UCLA and pursue a psychobiology major. Here’s the assist articulation courses. Goodbye.” I didn’t even know the difference between the psychology major and psychobiology major and when I asked him he got extremely pissed and looked at me like I was a waste of time.
I then signed up for the honors program and met with one of the two counselors who was absolutely incredible. He guided me the way a counselor should guide his students. He know students by a first basis and actually remembers their goal plans weeks - months after the last meeting. Without him, I would have wasted so much time. I can thank the honors program for that since it’s smaller opposed to the entire school.
^ I second that. I love the SMC Scholars counselors!!
Anybody got Regents invitation yet?
Posting on behalf of my boyfriend (he does not use this site).
Major: Mechanical Engineering
GPA: 4.0 in M.E. (caveat: he did the transfer work for a humanities degree many years ago, but did not pursue it; his GPA from that is a 3.6, and if you average all of his grades, he has a 3.8).
School: California-based community college
IGETC: N/A
In Progress: He has one math and one engineering class required by UCLA in progress
Missing: 2 strongly recommended engineering classes that no CC in our area offers
Extra Curriculars: Math, Physics and Chemistry tutor, Chemistry Club
Volunteering: Rebuilt homes after Katrina, helped migrants for 3 years
He’s a 30 year old first time college student. His family and I are rooting for him!
can anyone tell me what your application status is rn? Mine is APPLICATION RECEIVED, i just feel like it should be IN PROCESS or something
@cynthiadong yup, that’s what it says on mine too. Just relax haha. The decision date (presumably the 17th) should be made final toward the end of this week hopefully! Good luck
I know everyone else is in the same boat, but man am I nervous about this! I visited UCLA (again) a little while ago and I feel totally in love. Trying not to think about it too much, but it’s hard not to, with it approaching so quickly. Btw, @cynthiadong, mine says that as well. Should be normal.
With late release of regents emails and the fact that on the application page it says late april. May be looking at the 24th. Hopefully the 17th though!
Someone I know who currently works in admissions/recruiting visited the Bay Area (where I live) over spring break and he mentioned the date that’s been going around in his office is the 24th… My heart broke a little but it looks like we should all just relax and distract ourselves the best we can while we wait.
Yes, although late release of regents doesn’t necessarily affect decision date. You usually only have a week to respond. What it actually might do is lead to all the invites actually being admitted. Usually about 5-10% of UCLA Regent invites are not offered admittance. Maybe because of lateness, they will filter those [cough… losers…cough] out. B-)
@LuckyName the counselor who told you about psychobio wasn’t completely off base. I’m a premed biochem major at UCSB, for context. To get to med school for psychiatry, or any field, you have to take the Gen chem, Ochem, bio, math, and physics required of psychobio. So you enroll as psychobio to get the classes, and after you finish them, you switch to your psych major, if that’s what you want. He/she sounds brash, but not off base. You will presumably be there 2+ years of you are serious about med school.
Darn. UCLA is late again. The scholarship coordinator also told me last week that she is still awaiting the Regents list from Admissions people. So, looks like UCB and UCLA will release results on same day. (April 24)
Who knows?
Can someone chance me please? I am dying here from anxiety

Miaomia,
Last year average admit GPA for Psychology was 3.93 at UCLA. You are above that and you have decent EC’s.
Plus you have great essays as per your assessment.
So, I would say you have a great shot.
@HumbleTeen Last year the psych admit GPA was 3.83.
I’m working on the 24th, so I really hope its the 17th!!!
