Fall 2016 Admissions

@ColumbiaHopeful99 Do you know if the interview is in person or via phone? I got an email about an interview and I emailed back my available time slots, but I haven’t heard anything back yet.

@KindBoy It’s over the phone. I asked if they would be interested in conducting an in-person one since I live in NYC, but the question went ignored lol.

Does anybody know how we can find out about our transfer credits and what they will satisfy? I’ve done a lot of digging on their site and im pretty positive I will have most of their core requirements done. Also, if I take classes during the summer at my current school to make up for online classes that won’t transfer will they then be counted for credit even though I will have already signed my intent for Columbia? I already tried calling admissions about this but they didn’t have any info…any help would be great thanks!!

And CONGRATS to all those who have been accepted!!

@vancehunyc Amazing! Thanks so much for that update. I kept trying to log into financial aid services, until I emailed and realized that newly admitted students hadn’t even been processed yet.

Anyone have thoughts on university housing vs off-campus housing?

And if anyone gets an aid package/has a general sense of cost and feels comfortable sharing please let me know!

@switcharooney You will be able to login soon. I couldn’t login until this morning.

I heard that newly admitted GS students usually get something around 10K. Because they don’t really offer need-based scholarships, most of our packages may look similar. However, once you have your GPA at gs, you will have a chance of largely increasing your scholarship. I have friends who went there and that’s what they told me.

@Mike2011 Hi Mike, I mentioned in my previous post that they told me to give them a week and then you will receive your credit evaluation by email.

Hi, anyone know when will we have to answer the school whether we will enroll or not? Also, how many electives credit can be taken in 124 credits required for the degree?

Received my ECR yesterday, and was granted credit for pretty much what I expected: all mathematics, science, and any general education courses were accepted. Most of the business courses I took, along with any random electives, were not taken. For those who have taken business classes at their community colleges, Columbia will accept a maximum of 6 pre-professional credits. Engineering, journalism, and law courses fall under the pre-professional umbrella as well. I’m not sure if this is traditionally the case with all applicants, but it took over a month and a half for me to receive this report. For those were just recently accepted, it may be the same for you as well.

Has anyone on this thread had any experience with out-of-state community college transferring into state schools? For example, transferring from a PA junior college to a UC?

@Kevin2509 According to their website: “All B.A. candidates are eligible to transfer up to 60 of the 124 points required for graduation.”

http://bulletin.columbia.edu/general-studies/undergraduates/transfer-credit/

I think @Kevin2509’s question was how many electives can be taken at the school in pursuit of the B.A. degree. The answer to this depends on whether or not you take a concentration, and also on how many credits you transfer in from another school.

Does anyone know how long it takes to receive our aid package? I’m trying to decide between Columbia and giving Mount Holyoke a deposit before the 8th! So anxiety inducing how different schools have different deadlines.

Anybody knows when is the deadline to make a decision for newly admitted students?

I emailed them regarding the deadline for a deposit and she said you can respond within a month.

@nickdrake I received my ECR 2 weeks after being admitted…as far as transferring from an out of state school to a UC goes it depends on which UC you are looking at. All UC’s are generally pretty difficult as an out of state student since resident transfers take priority, but again it really depends on where you want to go. I’m a Los Angeles resident and CC student and I believe certain UC’s like Davis, SB, and SD are a little easier for out of state transfers. Berkeley and LA aren’t impossible…but highly unlikely given the number of California applicants they get. So its a crap shoot. There are also a lot of instances though where you’ll get into Berkeley (i.e. Me) but not UCLA - and vice versa. I also think it is highly dependent upon what major you apply for.

also does anyone know if I take classes over the summer at my current school if those will count towards transfer credits?..

Accepted!

I’m worried about my ECR right now. They asked me to submit the official college transcript so that they can generate my ECR. However, it will take 1 more week for the transcript to arrive in the US. Anyone know the exact deadline to answer the offer ? Can’t believe the answer day is not available on their website !!!

@Mike2011 yes it counts. You can call them and they will get someone to estimate how many of your summer credits are going to count. I got Diana Kim and she was very nice.

Does anyone know the max amount given for the Dean’s Scholarship for New Students?

Found out today that my application is currently with the committee. Does anyone know what this means and if I should be expecting a decision soon?
