How did you find out? E-mail?
I received an e-mail today saying “Per review of your file, we still require the receipt of documents to consider your application complete. To determine what documents have not been received and upload those materials, please log-in to your Application Status Page by clicking here”
However, I’ve got all my green check marks. Not sure why that e-mail was sent.
@maxenvellzen I called the admissions office to ask when I should expect a decision. She told me I was currently under review by the committee, but failed to really answer my original question.
I would call them, the receptionist can pull up your app and tell you what you are missing
@TransferStudent2016 how long did it take for you to get a decision?
Has anyone received their admissions packet?
I was accepted on the 29th, but have not received anything in the mail yet.
I am in California, so I’m not sure if that’s causing the delay…
I’ve already received a lot from Berkeley, so I’m a bit bummed.
@TransferStudent2016 . You need to visit Once Admitted page and follow the instruction. There won’t be any packet sent to you except for the Transfer credit report until you do some steps on that page
Didn’t get admitted unfortunately. During my interview they seemed very impressed by my grades and my career accomplishments. I think they weren’t comfortable with my intentions for wanting to study at Columbia though. It is what it is…Brooklyn College here I come!
PS - Best of luck to all of you who were accepted (and rejected). Wish you nothing but success.
@ColumbiaHopeful99
I’m sorry about the news…did you recieve an email today?
Is anyone deferring to the spring semester?
I get 11K from GS. I always know it’s going to be a number like this, and I think the education itself is worth it. However, I also step back and think of the fact that CC kids got in with full scholarships. I really don’t know if going to GS is a rational idea for me at this point. Because even if I manage to have a 4.0 again(it’s not likely tho), the maximum I can get from GS will be 25K, which is way lower than the average scholarship at CC…That being said, no matter how well we will do, even if we do better than those CC kids, we will never be treated the way they are. I really understand that GS can only give me 11K for the first year because our admission is different than that of CC. I can also understand that they can only provide us merit based scholarship because they may want to motivate us to be more competitive. However, the merit based scholarship is too little…It makes me feel like this is a discrimination and they use us as a money cow for other kids
@vancehunyc I have done a lot of reading on the subject and I don’t think GS is used as a cash cow for Columbia as some continuing education, non-integrated schools are for some other universities. It’s easy to arrive at this conclusion after receiving an aid package that is clearly weaker than a CC/SEAS student’s, but there are a few factors to consider here. GS has only been around since the 1940s, and thus does not have the benefit of accumulating an endowment as large as that of Columbia College. I also believe that because many GS students are forced to take on a large amount of debt, they subsequently don’t donate to the college after graduating. The notably different admissions standards play a role here as well - GS is most definitely a selective college, and I do believe the higher acceptance rate can be explained by a number of things (more self-selecting applicants, less applicants overall), but it is certainly not as difficult to get into as Columbia College. I’m by no means saying that these students are more deserving of scholarship/aid money, but it is undeniably true that a student accepted into Columbia out of high school will have stats strong enough to get them full rides/very generous aid packages from other universities. Transfer admissions is simply a different beast altogether - many prestigious colleges accept very few transfer students, and thus it almost feels like the trade-off for having the opportunity to study here in the first place is the intimidating amount of debt we are forced to take on as a result.
When considering whether or not GS is worth it, I try to take a few things into consideration: what am I planning to study, and what is the ROI on this major, regardless of which school I go to? What other universities can I study at, and how much of an impact will a Columbia degree ultimately have on my career path? Am I planning on attending grad school, and if so, how heavily is my undergraduate university considered in admission?
Also, I wouldn’t worry about never being treated the same way as CC students. Financially we decidedly face greater obstacles, but otherwise, I don’t believe we truly are discriminated against, at least according to what I have been told from a couple students that formerly attended GS.
NYU Cas asked me for an interview but it didn’t go through…I thought I was definitely gonna be denied but I was admitted!
I was also admitted to GS. So, it’s really hard for me to choose between these two schools. Regardless of financial aid, what would you choose if you were me? Taken financial aid into consideration, what would you choose if Columbia offered a lot less than NYU? Thank you!
What are you going to study? If you’re trying to get into finance/business then go to Columbia. If you were admitted to Stern, I would wholeheartedly recommend Stern. But since you were admitted to CAS, I can’t see what you would study there that would give you an advantage in finance over Columbia. Are you going to grad school? If so, NYU is a no-brainer. It really all depends on the major/grad school plans, as I mentioned above.
Hey, do Columbia GSers receive admissions packets?
To the accepted and those hopeful to be accepted, what are your plans for housing? Are you single or married? At the information session, it was mentioned that Columbia OCHA prices units well-below market value. Has anyone received an Offer of Accommodation from OCHA? What was the monthly rent?
Congrats to all those who got in GS! I have some questions for those who took the GSAE. I’m planning to take the GSAE on June 16th and I’ve been studying off the old official CollegeBoard SAT book. How did you prepare for it? Were the questions similar to the old SAT? Should I bother studying the new SAT questions as well?
@Dramaticv Yes, you will receive an admissions packet, but don’t be excited about it - it’s just hard copies of everything available to you through the online portal (acceptance letter, etc.) @maxenvellzen They’ll get back to you anytime between May and July. And @oddballer just study the English/Writing sections of the old SAT, not the new one. The GSAE isn’t going to overhaul their test just because CollegeBoard did.
@nickdrake Thanks. Don’t admission packets usually contain hard copies of all the things we’ve already gotten online?
The admissions rep told me that my application is under review, anyone has idea that how soon I would hear back? I noticed that many accpeted students were interviewed before, is it a bad thing that I never got an interview opportunity?
@calvinwong Not receiving an interview request can either be perceived as a good or bad sign of an impending acceptance letter. It’s usually requested for candidates on the fence of admission.
