@nickdrake I am just so freaking nervous since I was rejected last year. Awaiting a decision from dream school is simply nerve-wrecking, plus that I need to commit to either UCLA or Cal soon. Fingers crossed and hopefully I would hear back this Friday.
If you got into UCLA or Cal then you should have a good shot at admission. You were rejected from Columbia GS last year?
@nickdrake Yes, I was rejected last year.
@NICKDRAKE I got in!! What a surprise!! I found out that they sent me an email yesterday but somehow I didnt see it…
So here is the question,
anyone has advice on which school I should choose, UCLA/CAL/Columbia GS?
Unfortunately, I did not qualify for FA for all schools. Thus, the cost of attendance would not be taken into consideration.
- I go to a Community college in LA, so I am pretty familiar with UCLA. It is a great school with great reputation and facility, yet it is a bit overwhelmingly big for me.
- I visited Berkeley once last year and I am not quite a fan of its atmosphere. No offense, it is a great school.
- Columbia, I visited it once at night LOL. Not really sure if I have experienced anything. I should visit again later this month.
@calvinwong do you by any chance go to SMC? just wondering bc thats where I go hah!
@calvinwong Considering the fact that GS/Berkeley/UCLA are often some of the most attractive options for those who have excelled at community colleges, this question is often posed by posters on these threads. I’ve offered my insight into this decision on this thread, along with a couple other on this site. There are just a ton of factors to take into consideration. Since tuition is not one of these factors in your case, many - including myself - would point you in the direction of Columbia; however, as a California resident (I’m assuming you are) the amount of money you would save by attending an in-state school should not be disregarded (in my opinion). Cost notwithstanding, the next factor you’d want to consider is what you plan on studying. Check out the programs each school offers and their respective reputations. What part of the country do you see yourself working in after graduation? UC schools will likely attract a ton of recruiters from the California region, whereas Columbia will attract a lot of recruiters from within New York City. Do you want to live in the city? Are you comfortable in a program comprised of nontraditional students, or are you looking for a more traditional undergraduate experience? Do you plan on attending graduate school?
@mike2011 How can you tell?! yes, I go to SMC.
@Mike2011 @calvinwong I go to SMC too! Crazy.
When are admissions decisions due? If we found out May 3rd, is it by June 3rd? :-/
Applied for a single room dorm! Hoping to get that and then do OCHA for my second semester once I know the are a better
@calvinwong I had the same decision! I ended up choosing Columbia GS.
@switcharooney I have no idea. I should you should probably email them or call them to confirm
Hi @switcharooney , there is no hard day for the decision. However, it’s advised to answer the offer within a month. Of course, you can delay your answer as there is no hard deadline for this. Hope this help
Anyone know if I’m from Vietnam. How many credits of foreign language can be waived ? 4 courses or 2 courses ?
@nickdrake Have you completed the APS yet?
I am wondering if anyone on this thread has received their FA package and are abel to register for classes?
Yes, I attended the APS. Once you are marked as present at an APS, you are assigned an advisor and can then make an appointment with them to register for courses. If you’re from outside the NYC area, you are guaranteed a next day appointment.
I registered for an APS next week. I am checking the classes on my own and it seems like most classes are already closed… Did anyone registered for classes? Were the options really limited? Thanks!
Any accepted international student here on the thread?
I was wondering if anyone who attended an remote APS can tell me if I still need to fly over to NY to meet with a counselor? Is there any chance to finish all the process remotely online?
Thanks!
@vancehunyc The options are extremely limited - such is the nature of transfer admissions. I’m currently struggling to fill my schedule.
I thought we can’t register class until August ? Does anyone have the academic calendar for fall 2016 ?
I am going to the APS on Jun 7th, anyone else is going?
