@mbmtg16 You may have to call the admissions department to get your CUID. I did that today and was able to access the other application tracking page.
@maxenvellzen I actually participated in the Warrior Scholar Project at Yale University last summer, it was an absolute life changing program, I could not recommend it enough!! I wish more veterans knew about it, because they do so much to help the veteran community. But its no free ride, if you get in prepare for the most academically challenging two weeks of your life!
Thats actually where I learned about the general studies program and where I was first introduced to service to schools. Ive been in the program for about 8 months and they’ve been awesome as well, especially with the whole vet link program. Im pretty excited to be an ambassador myself so I can share what I’ve learned throughout this whole transfer process.
@MikeSauce Your thoughts are in line with everyone else I have spoken to about the program. I keep hearing great things! So did the course at Yale have a STEM component last year? I found out a few days ago that I got in, but course placements aren’t until an unspecified day in March. Nice to know it will probably kick my ass.
Did the WSP have any influence on your major?
Hello all,
I submitted everything before the Jan 15th deadline, and am now awaiting the decision. Pretty much everything that’s been said already is what I’ve experienced as well. Good luck to everyone!
@MASailor9360 Are you coming from a community college as well?
They had the pilot program for STEM last semester, only a few guys got to try it out. Im not stem but everyone seemed to enjoy it.
It sort of did, I was only going to apply to public schools before I went to WSP, now I’m applying to 6 schools in the top 15. If I get in then it will certainly have had a huge impact on the course of my life!
@nickdrake Actually I finished in the Navy just a few weeks ago. Had 2 years of college before I joined, and a couple online classes last year.
@MASailor9360 Hopefully we’ll hear back soon. Have they made any changes to your application or contacted you about anything since you applied? Did you by any chance exceed the word limit on the personal statement as well?
Interview Questions: Whats up with your high school grades? Why did you join the military? When did you decide to pursue a college degree? What was the hardest thing about being a Marine? Why this particular major? Why are you applying to columbia? What do you plan to do at Columbia? Is a liberal arts education important? Is dealing with traditional students intimidating?Any questions for me?
They didnt have my essay yet so they had to ask me a lot of basic questions, the guy was actually pretty chill ( I think he felt bad about being late), but I clearly sounded nervous and I bombed the major question. I’d give myself a 7/10
@MikeSauce Going forward you at least know what to focus on in your personal statement. What did you consider to be the major question?
the question was regarding the actual chosen major, it was just pretty clear I didnt know what I was talking about. But yeah you’re right about the personal statement
I am sure you didn’t do so bad! My wife just had her interview with Parsons regarding admissions into their MFA program. She swears she bombed it.
I am now curious what your intended major is, though. I am leaning towards economics, but have yet to decide which concentration.
So you still have your essay and GSAE left, with the interview out of the way? Not the order I imagined it, but I suppose your S2S channels may have had something to do with it.
@MikeSauce Yeah from what I’ve read it’s important to have an understanding of specific programs offered at Columbia and how they will help advance you in your career path. Definitely worth dedicating at least 200 words to in the personal statement.
Hey guys, I was wondering if some of you guys are taking, or have taken the GSAE? If so, how are you preparing for it? How did you prepare for it? And how was it for you all?
@krcausit Hello, I’m taking the exam on March 1st. It says on the college site that some parts of the exam will be
similar to what is on SAT. But I’m also wondering how should one prepare for the exam…
@mbmtg16 @krcausit The GSAE is very similar to the SAT, aside from the fact that it does not have a math section. To prepare for it GS instructs you to go to collegeboard.org for preparation materials. GS also doesn’t release your score to you so if you’re curious to know how you did you should take the SAT.
Has anyone received an email from gs that tells the application is complete and it’s in review process. I just got it this morning. When I saw email from gs I thought that was an email that informed the decision so I need some courage to open it. Anyway apparently the review process has just started.
@yesorno0101 I received the same email about an hour ago so I’m assuming they sent it out to most early action applicants at the same time. I was really hoping to hear back before the 1st of March but if the review process really just began then it looks like it’ll be another two weeks.
I’m also hoping that I will receive the decision soon because gs is definitely my first choice. I won’t need to apply to other schools if I get accepted to gs. I hope we will both get good news soon.
I’m in a very similar place–it’s been tough for me to tackle other applications because if I hear back from GS in time I most likely won’t submit them. I get the feeling now that they’ll send all the Jan. 15th early action decisions on the 1st of March.
