FALL 2016 UCLA OFFICIAL TRANSFER THREAD

@dimples12 https://www.admission.ucla.edu/prospect/adm_tr/lsmajors/sociol.htm Complete these.

Hey guys, I’m currently in my last year of CC, so that means that I’ll be finished with all my prerequisites by Fall 2016.
What I originally planned on doing was to submit an application only when I’d finish the required prerequisites. If I do that, that means that I can only apply for Fall 2017, since I won’t be able to meet the, “must complete prerequisites by the previous Spring semester” requirement to apply for Fall 2016. So, does this basically mean that I have to wait an entire year before being eligible to apply? Or should I just try my luck since I’ll only be missing one class before transferring? My major is electrical engineering by the way. Thanks for taking the time to read this!

You need to finish pre-reqs in spring 2016 to apply for fall 2016, meaning the application window is this November - opening in a few days.

If what you’re missing is one recommended course, I’d still apply. If it’s a required course, others may have thoughts that are better than mine… It’s a very competitive major, as you know.

Yeah, I’ll think about it. Thank you for the input!

So it’s been confirmed that Berkeley’s decisions will be released April 24th, 2016…

Does anyone know when UCLA’s will be released? It will be before Berkeley’s right?

@themightybicycle
They consistently release decisions a week before Berkeley does.

So, April 17th is a day you should watch out for.

Hi! Can u guys chance me please? I am super nervous.

I am an international student in Pasadena City College

major: mathematics/econ, last year’s average admitted gpa is 3.75, applied mathematics as alternate major which average GPA is 3.69 (lack one major class, physics)
GPA: 3.78 (Now 3.80) get total 3Bs, one B from the time I was in high school
Major GPA: 3.62, get two Bs on math
Major pre req: will be done by spring 2016 for econ math
IGETC: will be done by spring 2016
ECs: Math Club President, volunteer in elementary school, volunteer in teaching foreign language, intership as an accountant in American Chung Nam Company
Personal Statement: haven’t started yet, but will be done soon by myself, will ask an English professor to check

I was wondering if anyone can provide a second opinion on what I should do–
I’m a political science major who just switched over from economics.
Long story short, I’m not sure if I should take the initiative of taking 1 or 2 winter intersession classes in January 2016 (Intro to Stats &/or a History class) so it can help boost my GPA.

I’m taking these 2 political science honor courses and my professor has a very difficult grading system, if you’re even one point away from an A, he’ll knock you down to a B.
If this is the case, my GPA could go from a 3.76 to a 3.66…so I was planning on just sucking it up and taking one or two winter classes just so I can maintain a 3.7 by the end of winter (if I do end up receiving 1-2 B’s in my current political science classes)…

Any idea what I should do?
Thanks!

@by3000 Classes taken in the winter will not be included in the GPA that they consider. You can, however, send them your winter intersession grades, and they’ll see that you did well - but the actual figure will be different.

Could’ve sworn I’d seen this on the thread, but can’t seem to find it: When is UCLA supposed to post the profile of admitted transfers for Fall 2015? Thanks!

I looked through last year’s transfer thread and they did not update the profile for fall 2014 until 11/26. I really hope we do not have to wait that long as well

Quick question. Is it mandatory to have all pre-reqs completed before transferring? As of today, I am only missing one class as an English major. My community college doesn’t offer the final pre-req I am missing. I could take it at another community college over the spring but that would require driving 40 miles there and back. I wouldn’t mind but the question then becomes, could I get away with missing that one final class? Thank you and good luck to all not only applying to UCLA but schools state/nation wide.

You can’t take a section of the English class you need online at that CC?

If it’s missing from your CCC and isn’t nearby, the UC should not hold that against you. They don’t expect you to drive 40 miles. However, I urge you to send an email to the UCLA admissions and get verification.

@lindyk8 do you by chance have their email? Or know any other manner in which I can get in contact with them?

@panorama14 Send via this form and explain exactly what’s missing and the closest CCC that has it.

@CalRadical I was wondering the same but someone mentioned that last year’s statistics were updated around mid November.

are spring 2016 grades (semester system) given much weight, provided that I pass the class? I’ve found out that one of my prereq classes is only offered in one session and one teacher, who is apparently awful. I’m pretty confident I can at least pass, but not sure if I could get an A without tearing my hair out. applying as a communications major which is impacted, so I’m somewhat worried (i.e. could my acceptance get rescinded?)

also, does anyone know about how the credit for the psychology classes works? on assist.org it says no AP credit is allowed, but on the ucla website it says you can use a score of 4+. I’m also extremely worried about this because I’m using AP credit in place of the class, and psychology would be my 4th prereq class that they want me to take before I transfer (so if it turns out AP credit isn’t allowed, I’m kind of screwed, unless I can beg my case in the additional comments part of the app.)

Don’t use AP for major prep, just IGETC, etc. They want classes for major req.

how do you know your personal statements are really good? can it save you from a low gpa? like around 3.0-3.3 range?
