@sugarbabies3 What is his major? I keep reading how the UC’s are accepting more transfers this year, so I’m sure he’ll get in.
I wonder if it’s possible that UCLA could still send out supplementals to transfer students then? They seem to do things a little later than the others.
Hi everyone! I’m so nervous about the results coming up, especially after looking at the freshmen threads! I had a couple questions. The first one is about the “open house” invitation. Has anyone gotten that this month yet? I heard that every year they send out an invitation to a select few to meet the department and professors you applied to (at least in the DMA program). Second, are there any Design Media Arts transfer hopefuls around this thread? I started one just for us if you would like to join and chat!
@oldhopeful His major is Mechanical Engineering. His major gpa is 4.0, overall gpa 3.93 But I’m glad they’re excepting more transfers this year. Fingers crossed!
Once we have all the decisions in (at the end of April), we’ve got about a week to decide and SIR so we can apply for family housing and childcare right away. It’s all such a big change
Someone had pointed out that when they ask you for additional information, that all the UCs have access to it. If that’s the case, I think you’re in the clear from getting asked.
@Oldhopeful - We could be twins! I have the same gap in education and my former GPA is abysmal. My GPA now is excellent and although I’ve been accepted to CSULB, it’s UCLA I really am hoping for! I’ll keep my fingers crossed we get in
@Oldhopeful@Edirol did you all apply for academic renewal? I, too, had an abysmal academic history and spent ten years away from college. I was able to get what Temple University calls “academic forgiveness” and so, rather than inputing the C’s, F’s, and W’s I earned during my time there on the application, I was able to denote them “AR”. I’m hoping that admissions overlooks that whole period altogether, as I have a 3.9 since returning to school and had a successful career during my time away (which is what I focused my essays on).
@Edirol I got into Long Beach too! UCLA is also my top choice. Hopefully we both make it in, we can hang in the old people area.
@goodmarks I did do academic renewal for a few classes I had received F’s in, just the ones I didn’t intend on retaking because they weren’t needed. I wasn’t aware you could do that for C’s. My counselor never informed me of that. I know that I even expressed to her that I was bummed that you couldn’t retake C’s since I knew I could do better in those classes. You’d think she’d tell me I could erase those along with my F’s. Too late now I guess. I have around the same GPA as you since my return, hopefully that is their main focus.
@Oldhopeful i’m not sure if you can have individual C’s replaced by AR. In my case, I just had whole semesters wiped out, which included everything from As to Fs.
@goodmarks Interesting. Yea, when they went through my transcripts they did the AR per individual grades. I wish I could have just wiped out everything.

First Generation College student
Applied: UCLA - UCI - UCSB - CSUF

Oh man I wish they would have done that for me! But they probably didn’t because the C I got was Spanish 1 (wasn’t motivated) and then an A in Spanish 2 (6 years later lol). Since I had already taken a class down the sequence before I did AR.
@Panorama14 Your GPA looks pretty strong for the major, it’s bordering on the 75th percentile for admits last year. A lot of EC’s and good essays, I’d say your odds look pretty good.
@anxiousmac Y’know, that was actually my reaction when I received my decision - it was my #1 school, but at the same time I felt like it was just a dream school – so I was really surprised and pleasantly surprised. As for something exceptionally special, I’d like to think it was my personal statements. You should know that two people must say yes to your application before you’re accepted, not just one (at least, that’s what they told us at orientation!).
Hello, I’m currently a student at another UC who applied to transfer UCLA. Because I’m on the quarter system, I just finished my winter quarter and it wasn’t my best academically. Not horrible or anything, but it does slightly bring my GPA down. Should I bother to update my transfer application? I could be wrong but I don’t think it would be required to do a second transfer academic update anyway, would it?
@tigerbuns The transition was a lot easier than I expected. Going from a semester to a quarter system, you hear a lot about how difficult it is to stay on track, but for me, I found that the courses at LA (sociology courses, in my case) to be just about the same as I took at CC-- the only exception is that the quarter finishes faster. I’ve heard stories about how you have 10 page essays due the second week of school and midterms go on all quarter… but since I’ve been at UCLA, all of my classes have had the usual one midterm and one final and short papers spread throughout the quarter. Never have had I anything major due the second week. (and I can’t speak for all majors obviously).
Socially – I don’t think anyone has anything to worry about. The transfer community is sooo welcoming at UCLA; in the beginning of the school year, they have tons of events where you can go and meet other transfers. And once every quarter, they have a week of events dedicated to transfers as well (socials, workshops for grad school and graduating on time, etc.). This was super helpful for me because I’m not the kind to whip up conversations with the person sitting next to me in lectures lol. So making friends is not at all difficult if you just put yourself out there and attend the events!
April needs to come sooner! The wait is killing me!!
On a brighter note, I got the Regent’s Scholarship/accepted into the honor society for Irvine and got into SB today!
