@grimmghost congrats!
@tigerbuns no most UC’s offer regents to transfers. I believe only SB offers it to freshman. Berkley and LA let regents know in February and they are required to write 2 essays and get a letter of rec and then 100 applicants are chosen. Irvine sent out letters for regents in early March and I got my letter on the 20th
@GirlPower1 Transfers will not know of regents’ until late April.
@Burdened for what school? I read the regents thread for UCB and UCLA and they were all notified in February
@GirlPower1 That’s for freshman applicants.
@goldencub really?? That means there’s still a chance! Woo
@goldencub so regents notification is also around the time decisions come out for transfer?
and do regents have to do the essays for ucb and ucla or is that only for freshmen?
@grimmghost transfers are still required to do the essay and letter of rec
ok gotcha. thanks @girlpower1
Fellow psych majors, I am feeling queasy because aside from Econ having 1299 applicants last fall, Psych is the second most popular major with 1575 applicants. That’s insane. My alternate (anthro b.a.) had 362 applicants so hopefully they consider me for that one. jesussss
this might sound stupid, but I genuinely don’t know. what is regents and what qualifies you for it as a transfer??
@anxiousmac You typically need a 4.0GPA from what I’ve noticed the past two years. I was asked to apply for Regents when I had a 4.0 the first time I applied to UCLA, but I was rejected. The next year I received a B grade and withdrew from a class and I wasn’t offered Regents when I applied to UCLA again. You still need to go through a process, so I sorta doubt that I would have even gotten Regents had I tried out for it (and it still didn’t matter anyway since I didn’t get in that year) If you look it up, it says you get like a $2,000 grant, but can receive more depending on your financial situation. I recall last year that at least one student didn’t have a 4.0 and received an invitation to apply, but typically it seems that’s what you need.
I have no idea how UCLA awards Regents for transfers. Seems as if you have to apply for it, though:
“The top 1.5% of freshman applicants to UCLA, along with approxmately 600 third year transfer students are invited to apply for the Regents Scholarship. Of these students, 100 students receive the offer of scholarship.”
http://www.rssla.org/about/scholarship/
From Berkeley, though:
“Transfer students are notified mid-May.” I’m fairly sure that UCB just awards the scholarship. I don’t know, though. I’ve heard it just shows in the portal. I don’t think there’s early notification (or if there is any, it’s like a week before at most - according to a UCB rep).

so if you get an offer from regents, it essentially means you’ve gotten admission right? whether or not you end up qualifying for the scholarship? @zettasyntax
But if you’re family makes less than 80k a year you qualify for the Blue & Gold program which means you get to go to school tuition free. So at that point does Regents mean = Free Money?
Certainly it’s not “free” given the academic flourishing required. But it is a grant, yes. Tuition is one thing; housing, meals, etc are a different beast!
@Philosoup Regents would mean free $2k or so, yeah. But that’d likely be consumed rather quickly by housing costs, food costs, and other expenses.
@anxiousmac Actually no. I first applied to UCLA in 2014 and even though I did get an invitation to apply for Regents, I was rejected because the invitation email was sent out before the acceptances were released. Being offered Regents does not guarantee admission as I’m certainly proof of that. I have no idea if the Regents invitations are going to be sent out before acceptances this year, but it definitely doesn’t mean that you 100% got into the school. I did get accepted in 2015, but they didn’t like my GPA then to offer me Regents, haha
Is UCLA only $2000? UCI is offering me $2500 per academic year for regents?
@zettasyntax REALLY?! thats so odd. like why would they offer someone a scholarship if they’re not even going to be considered for an acceptance.
