@anxiousmac UCLA told them to apply - they did not offer them the scholarship.
while on the topic of scholarships, has anyone looked into the Alumni Scholarship? I know that it is open to everyone and mass emails about it are usually sent out late April, but I was on the website for it and the application is already open. However, after creating my profile/login all I see for it’s requirments are a letter of rec. Isn’t there also supposed to be an essay?
Also side note, would it be bad if the same letter of rec was used for the regents app and the alumni app?
@GirlPower1 Due May 1st… I’ll definitely apply.
There’s a letter of rec for the alumni app? I’d advise against that, as most letters of recommendation are contextualized (the scholarship name will likely be written in the letter.)
You could ask the recommender to suitably modify it for the other scholarship, if need be.
A friend of mine was offered scholarship to UCLA (she’s a freshman, not transfer, just happens to have a lot of college classes under her belt) but then was rejected. So I think regents is examined by application which you can only do by invitation. Seems to depend on the school. UCI didn’t require an application and they notified me of it at the same time as the acceptance decision. Not entirely sure of Berkeley.
We’ll just wait and see. ~O)
From what I’ve gathered, most UCs do not have you apply to regents. It’s something that they screen all applicants for. So they won’t send an invite to apply to it, just a notification if you get accepted. I have not come across someone who got regents and got denied, UNLESS they screwed up their last quarter/semester and did not meet the provisions. Freshman hear about regents prior to acceptance, transfers do not. Transfers hear about regents only AFTER acceptance. UCI will say at the right-side of their portal if you got regents as soon as (you’re) accepted. However, UCLA, UCB, and I believe UCSD also, will notify accepted applicants of their regents 2-3 weeks after decisions (so in May).
Also, You can be offered to apply for alumni and such scholarships to all the UCs but these are in NO way an indicator on if you got in or not.
Hopefully this clears some of this stuff up…
And please stop mentioning and comparing freshman to transfers, as they do not pertain to transfers and just confuse things further.
@Cheolf Posts 816 & 817 - again, weird.
I have spoken at length with UCLA representatives about the Regents’ and they have a separate body (committees) that handle reading Regents’ applications. In fact, a freshman receiving an invitation to apply means that they are in fact in the top 1.5% of applicants but it does not guarantee admission. The UCLA rep made a point that there have been people that were approved for the scholarship but were not, in the end, offered admission to UCLA actual.
For transfers, like I’d said, be patient and wait until late April.

@goldencub That’s crazy; we basically paraphrased each other. @-)
So…one more month to go? I’m dying here.
HOLD UP GUYS----- is the regents for berkeley the “leadership award”? is it by invitation only? i received one, is it open to all? please let me know
The regents and the leadership award are two different things. You will not be invited to apply for regents. The college automatically considers each applicant for regents with your UC application.
The leadership award is a scholarship that you are invited to apply for, it is sent to many students, and is in no way an indicator on if you got in.
Do you happen to know how many students approximately it is sent out to?
It’s open to everyone, I think. The email sent was generic.
Hey Guys!
New to this thread.
I was wondering, what was the last email you guys got from UCLA? Generic or otherwise?
I think the last one I received was sometime in late Feb.
Angst… THE ANGST!!!
Thanks =)
@empad7 Mine was Feb 28, titled “Find your place at UCLA.”
I can already see myself as an alumni of THE UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA, LOS ANGELES. Ugh. And after that, Harvard Law School or something.
UCLA JUST HELP ME MAKE MY DREAMS COME TRUE ALREADY.
UCLA sends out generic emails every year to its applicants.
Q: UCs can’t tell when someone submits an SIR at another campus, right? I wanna submit my SIR at UCSB cause UCSB is love but idk if doing so will somehow cause UCLA to notice haha
even if I were to get into UCLA, idk if I would choose it over UCSB, just curious
The last email that I received was this “UCLA Student Honor Society Membership Acceptance Form” this afternoon.
Is anyone familiar with this? Is it specifically for UCLA or for all UC students? I’ve never been sent a honor society invitation that did not require a fee so I am skeptical of whether I should put in my information.
It is information that they could apprehend if they wanted to, but they don’t care. Many people have SIR’d to one school than cancelled after getting accepted to one they weren’t expecting.
