FALL 2016 UCLA OFFICIAL TRANSFER THREAD

Don’t we all

I am a sociology major from CC hopefully transferring to UCLA as well! How do you like studying sociology? Also, can you double major with two impacted majors?

I visited UCLA today. It was a very impressive campus. It was beautiful and I enjoyed the atmosphere. It’s my solid number two choice. Sorry; Berkeley just blew me away! I definitely wouldn’t be sad to go to UCLA, though. I know that I would love it there.

I never got a chance to visit the UCLA campus but I feel like I’ve heard enough about how great and prestigous it is and seen enough pictures and YouTube videos to know it’s awesome. There’s a very very slim chance i’ll get in, but I can dream. :-"

Man can it be April already? Question for everyone. I got accepted into UCSB as a communications major. I applied to UCLA as an English major. My career goal is to become a sports journalist. Assuming I get into UCLA, which school would you think suits my career choice better? Thank you guys and good luck to all!

I feel like communication majors are a dime a dozen. Go with English.

@Platosgooch but how would majoring in English benefit me more than Comm?

@Panorama14 Comm is probably more geared toward your future career goals - but honestly, if you have internship/work experience in your desired field, you would probably be fine with either English or Comm. Los Angeles is definitely in a better location for you, too.

@goldencub yes bro! LA home to the Rams, Dodgers, Angels, Lakers, Clippers and the ucla bruins. I’d have access to one of the most storied sports program in the country. I’d have the opportunity to cover ucla sports through The Daily Bruin … English would simply be my major but internships and relateable work experience around the city in LA will, i think, put ucla over Ucsb. Lets see how admission decisions play out. Thank you! @goldencub

@Panorama14 If you could land an internship or job with the LA Times (one of the better newspapers in the US, as I’m sure you know), that would probably give you an edge. I think your actual major won’t matter much - experience in the field, I’m sure, is really what matters from journalism. TL; DR - you’ll be fine with either school if you go out of your way to get internships/work experience.

@goldencub you’ve made nothing but valid points … I appreciate you brother.

Any idea on when we should be hearing back if we are expecting Regents? I was admitted into UCSD on Regents, and got my acceptance letter far before other people did. Can i be hoping this to be the same for LA? Is a April 1st release too far fetched?

@POTUS2040 UCLA does send out early admissions. Typically they send all decisions out a week before Berkeley, which would be April 22 this year.

@Cheolf Early admissions? Would you have to apply for early decisions for that? Or is that random?

with regards to bruin day, (on the beautiful chance we all get accepted lol) I saw that it wasn’t until May 14th, don’t we have to commit by May 1st?? doesn’t that sort of defeat the purpose of bruin day?

@anxiousmac Transfer must SIR by June 1st. You have the whole month of May to decide.

@TheVisionary okay thanks!

@anxiousmac dont forget about the UCLA 17TH ANNUAL STOMP TRANSFER CONFERENCE. It is being held the 29th of April. Hopefully we get our decision before that day.

Hey i was wondering if someone had any input on a dilemna i have. I applied to several UCs and my top 2 are Cal and LA. I applied as an Econ major with a 3.85 gpa, it looks like i might get a C in calc 2 which is a major prep for this major. If i am accepted and end up getting a C will they rescind any acceptances? Also if possible, would they allow me to retake for a higher grade the summer prior.

@Cheolf UCLA sends out early admissions? So might we expect something before the 22nd?
