FALL 2016 UCLA OFFICIAL TRANSFER THREAD

@empad7 I too was asked to submit unofficial transcripts for the schools where I received bad grades. I’m not sure what to make of it. I wasn’t able to get academic renewal, however, I managed to bring my gpa up to a 3.47 despite a few Fs over 13 years ago. I’m hoping they take into account the upward trend.

@bonjouruc2016 Why were you unable to get renewal? From what I’ve been told the upward trend helps a lot, especially with long gaps. I had a similar situation with some poor grades over ten years ago. I was able to either do renewal on or take over the F’s though, it was the C’s I got stuck with.

Did UCLA ask you for the transcripts? I would think that means they’re considering you. I’m not sure if it’s good or bad that I was never asked for additional info.

Business/econ major
4.0 gpa, scholars at SMC, IGETC about to be done, and good resume, but I will be missing calc 2(requirement, pre calc is lowest necessary to apply) b/c I am doing calc now.
If I am accepted what do you think I will have to do about calc 2? Will I have to do it in a short semester at a CC in summer or do it at that school next fall?

@Oldhopeful I wasn’t able to get renewal because the school had some ridiculous rule that I needed to show I improved at that very school, by the time I was ready to show my upward trend I had moved out of that city. I can relate with the c’s as well

I received a request from UCLA and UCSD, stating they were reviewing my application and needed some additional clarification and unofficial transcript from the school I had received bad grades from. I’m not sure what to make of it, I’m going to hope it’s a good sign. If your C’s were from 10 years ago I’m sure they’ll take it into consideration. Good luck!

@smctothe I believe calc 2 must be completed by spring to be considered for admission to the business economics major.

@bonjouruc2016 I’m hoping that the request a good thing. I have my fingers crossed for you. AR has really freaked me out…can be pretty intimidating… Atleast when you read all of these posts about straight A’s…

Fingers crossed!!!

@SwaggypUCLA No, it means that everyone is evaluated in light of their EC’s, GPA, ambition, and life story. No one is accepted to this school solely off of GPA.

Also, understand that the holistic review process is not only used to help people with “low GPA’s”. It benefits everyone.

@bonjouruc2016 Oh, what a weird rule. Not even the same district or state? That’s oddly strict. It seems you have their attention though. I’ll be crossing my fingers for you. What’s your intended major?

@UCLAFFF You’re talking about freshmen admissions. Transfer students are evaluated primarily on their GPA and everything else is secondary. Someone with a 3.9 GPA will get accepted as a Philosophy major even if they have 0 ECs.

I think it depends on the circumstances. If I remember correctly, UCLA evaluated @UCLAFFF holistically. They took into account everything about his application. Perhaps their holistic approach varies from applicant to applicant. @UCLAFFF is also a student at UCLA and from what he has told us in the past has talked to admissions on numerous occasions.

But hey, I won’t complain about 3.9 philosophy majors getting in, seeing as that’s exactly what I am!

Disclaimer: I speak from no position of authority and am merely speculating.

Haha, “I DON’T WANT NO DAMN GAMES”. Yes @hopetoachieve12 previous threads have suggested that it has consistently been the week before Berkeley’s decision and always on a Friday.

@Cgs16 I thought the same thing. Each campus has a portal that if you look in your email registered with the UC app, you can create a login and password that each have individual decisions on your application.

Try this:

Berkeley: https://apply.berkeley.edu/account/login?r=https%3a%2f%2fapply.berkeley.edu%2fapply%2fstatus

UCLA: https://www.admission.ucla.edu/myApplication/Login.aspx

Davis: https://cas.ucdavis.edu/cas/login?service=https%3A%2F%2Fmyadmissions%2Eucdavis%2Eedu%2Fapplicants%2Fcurrent%2Flogout%2Ecfm

UCSD: https://a4.ucsd.edu/tritON/Authn/UserPassword

UCI: https://login.uci.edu/ucinetid/webauth?return_url=https://services.admissions.uci.edu:8443/cgi-bin/myadmission.cgi?action=loginwebauth

USC: https://you.usc.edu/login/

You can look up “UC ____ portal” if I missed any of the campuses you applied to.

@SwaggypUCLA Based on your previous threads and posts, your gpa isn’t “bad”. You applied for a demanding major, I was gonna be a biopsych major as well but I saw the pre-req’s I would have to take at CC- they definitely take into account the difficulty of the classes your major requires in relation to your GPA. Given your goals, your campus won’t matter as much as a continuous upward trend in GPA, stellar MCAT score, and adequate research. Best of luck to you, you seem to have a good head on your shoulders

@Oldhopeful I know, very strict right? My counselor and I tried everything. Oh well. I’m a Sociology major, how about you?

Thank you! I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed for you too!

@bonjouruc2016 History. I’m ready to find out already, haha. I need to start wrapping my head around the commute, if I get in.

@Oldhopeful Seriously, same here, this waiting game is distracting me from life, haha. Where do you currently live? I I I suppose even living in LA the commute sucks. I used to drive only 14 miles around the LA area and it would take about 45 minutes if I was lucky.

@bonjouruc2016 I’m in the South Bay, so I’m looking at an hour each way on a good day. I’m not really into living in the Westside either, so even if I did move somewhere I don’t see myself really ending up much closer.

@Oldhopeful Oh I see, yeah, living near campus is 1. super pricey and 2. super congested, although I guess you can say that about all of LA lol. Well, your commute would be closer than mine, I’m in San Diego lol.

Hey all I just wanted to see if you’d be willing to give me a decisions prediction. I am also freaking out because this will impact what will happen with my family for the next few years.
GPA: 3.69 with out tallying in spring 2016 grades
Major: Global Studies
Honors Tap Certified through my community college
IGETC: completed
Major prerequisite completed.
I am also a single mom involved in a variety of leadership programs so I hope I have that going for me. I think I wrote a bomb ass personal statement, but who ever knows whats good enough! However, I know that Global Studies is a very impacted major and UCLA recieved a record number of applicants once again -_- i dont have the perfect GPA that I think the degree program wants. I’d appreciate the feedback everyone! Thanks!

@Cielo I’m sure your chances are pretty good. The GPA is a bit on the lower side for the major, but everything else should help. From what I’ve read they really incorporate all the additional stuff into their decisions.

P.S. When are the second drafts of our Spanish papers due? :stuck_out_tongue:
