@Mike2011 tell me about it…as a comm major as well my anxiety is through the roof…i just had a dream last night that I got rejected from UCLA and even that was enough to shake my emotions…may I ask what your stats are?
@iamthetopgun I too thought the deadline said it was this upcoming Thursday, but like @SDSU84 said, the date is in the email.
@Salmanthgr8 In regards to cognitive science, how easy would you say it is to get in? Do you have any ideas as to what a good GPA for cognitive science would be? I have a 3.52, but I took a chem class I didn’t need and ended up getting a C in it, which really tanked my GPA. Otherwise, I’d have a 3.8-ish. I don’t think my chances are too great but I am curious, especially since you go there! Congrats by the way!
Hard to believe decisions come out in only five more days.
Does anyone know if UC’s will value a class that is neither used to complete IGETC or used for a major pre-req. I totally bombed a class that is useless for anything and I also took it back in high school before I even began my transfer courses.
@topchoiceschool have you looked into academic renewal?
@tedopotato12 Comm major here as well, my anxiety is getting too crazy I think. Let’s go watch a movie lol
@Sumner the damn decision will still be in the back of my mind. can i ask what your stats are too lols
@Sanla124 Yeah I did. I got a passing grade, so I wasn’t able to retake it. Most schools don’t even accept academic renewal. But like I said the course doesn’t even show up in the IGETC pattern and it’s not even a major prep class, I really hope they don’t use evaluate that class into my admission…
My high school counselor thought it was a good idea for me to take a useless class @ CC, so I just listened.
@tedopotato12 I did have a 4.0 GPA but that’s it. My essays were nothing impressive nor were my ECs. I would say I had some leadership position back in high school but my ECs in college is kinda weak. So I’m super insecure and I feel like I can vomit my heart out anytime lol What about your stats?
PS I hope every comm major here can be accpeted that would be awesome
@tedopotato12 yea I’ve def been there… it will be over soon though and then life can return to normal haha! I figure if i get in then obviously - AWESOME!!! im stoked for life, but if i get rejected at least Game of Thrones comes back on Sunday ¯_(ツ)_/¯
GPA: 3.96
IGETC: complete
PREREQS: complete
EC: I’m a non-traditional student so I have a lot of experience in different communications roles- 7 yrs with Verizon Communications as operations supervisor. 3 internships as a Digital Producer for creative advertising agencies, and currently for a digital magazine
Applied to: UCLA,USB,UCSD,UCSB,USC, Columbia
I feel like my essay was pretty strong. I talked about how I had an unfulfilling career which led to my decision to go back to school to finish my degree. Basically just discussed that I’m in school because I want an education and value the opportunity to learn versus just viewing college as a stepping stone to a good job. Blah Blah Blah… you get the picture
Im currently at Santa Monica College and pretty much everyone that I’ve met that is a Comm major at school has a 4.0 and pretty stacked EC’s so stressful doesn’t even begin to describe it. Its crazy to think we’re all just waiting in line to be told whether or not we’re “good enough” to give them our money.
@topchoiceschool I haven’t heard of AR not being accepted before.
So did you get a C? If so, you may just be stuck with it. UCs require you to report everything you’ve taken, even if it’s not IGETC or part of your major prep. But they like upward trends.
@PantherDuck People in the past couple years have gotten in with as low as a 3.2. If you have most prereqs done, I think you’re fine.
Guys, on April 17th 2015 at approximately 5:07 pm I got into UCLA. Can’t believe it’s been a year.
@Salmanthgr8 I’m so happy for you I can’t even imagine what that must have been like. do you mind if we know your stats and what pre reqs u had completed?
@Mike2011 “Its crazy to think we’re all just waiting in line to be told whether or not we’re “good enough” to give them our money.”
That just made me feel better… in some odd way.
Im basically begging (you know…apart from showing them my blood, sweat, and tears on that application) for these schools to let me pay them for the next two years. Its such a weird concept. So I’ll hold on to this tiny feeling in the back to my head and heart that this entire thing is absurd and that regardless of the result- I see past the grand facade. Look at me getting all tough!!! Hehe. Now, back to midterms ~O)
My dad went to UC Berkeley back when it was free and he loves to tell me all the time how his UC tuition was totally free and amazing and i’m like thanks…thanks a lot.
@Salmanthgr8 i actually recognized you from the 2015 forum when you posted your acceptance, congrats
@intjer haha sure lets go with that
@Sumner oh man I feel you…I’m just trying to prepare myself for whatever the outcome may be T-T
GPA: 3.86
I got a c on statistics which brought my 4.0 to a 3.86 and i think that one c in a major prerequisite is what will kill my chances tbh. i kick myself every time I think about :’)
IGETC: complete
PREREQS: complete
Since I finished everything and maxed out on units, I’m currently not enrolled in any classes.
EC:
- freelance artist who does commissions for portraits and murals

- some club participation here and there
Applied to: UCLA, UCSD,UCSB,USC, UCD, and UCB
In regards to my personal statements, I tried to be as genuine as possible. For the first one I talked about how ironic it is for me to be a communications major given my natural disposition of being an introvert and how much I detest any form of public speaking lol. I related each comms class i took to a different aspect of my life, what i got out of it, and how it will help me thrive in my goals and such. Second one I talked about being a competitive figure skater for 12 years and how I took time off college to pursue the sport.
