FALL 2016 UCLA OFFICIAL TRANSFER THREAD

Uh speak for yourself, not for tons of people online you don’t actually know.

I don’t know man, I work 50 hours a week on top of getting my AA-t in 2 years. I think I worked pretty damn hard for that.

@Mont2LA I’m not saying we didn’t work hard for it. I’m talking about we could have always done more school wise. I’m saying that no matter what, we will always feel like we could have done more. And it’s true, we could have gotten an A instead of a B or C in a class, but oh well, let’s just hope for the best now and not get totally bummed out if we don’t get accepted.

You are speaking for yourself correct? Because I know a lot of community college students who have some obstacle in their way.

UCLA is my dream school but if I don’t get in that doesn’t mean I didn’t work my hardest. You have to remember that UCLA gets the most competitive applicants from around the world. Just because I don’t want to waste another year to re-apply doesn’t mean that I didn’t want it bad enough either, that just means that my financial aid is running out & I need to get going with my education somewhere else.

My alternate major is economics. Do you think I will get in?

@Salmanthgr8

@intjer I think what they’re trying to say is that we did the best we could no matter what and at this point there is no sense in trying to think we could’ve done better if we didn’t have challenges X, Y, and Z.

Doing your best means trying hard persistently and learning from the times that there was an undesired outcome. Work ethic is not entirely defined by results but they are a determining factor.

If you get in- great. If you don’t get in- great. Your life’s path is in your hands regardless of what school you go to. You have to make the most of your surroundings.

“It is how you respond to your surroundings that determines character. The same water that softens a potato hardens an egg.”

@scottyanceynv You may not use Economics as your alternate major, even through TAP. It is a highly impacted major and must be your first choice.

For those who may not know, math/econ is also a newly impacted major. For some reason it is not posted on the UCLA website. Most people who apply to business economics will sometimes try and TAP with Math/Econ as their alternate major, but that will not work anymore! It’s not posted anywhere on the websites, maybe assist.org will update after this cycle.

@screenname34 Well that’s the whole point of this thread. To discuss. Whether it’s chances, admission, or general discussion about the school it’s all related to transferring so there’s no reason for it not to be here. That’s all relevant info on the applicant pool! Chilling out for the next few days is easier said than done though. Everyone’s anxious! We can always put together a separate thread on the day of admissions like a class did a few years back to post only admission decisions and stats. Makes it easier for others to scan what the average admit is like.

@Rololo I’m on it. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/uc-transfers/1883730-ucla-fall-2016-admits-waitlists-and-rejections.html?new=1

Hey, if my application is still “application received” and not “decision pending” will I still be able to know by this Friday?

Hi there! I was wondering if someone could tell me what they think my chances are?

Comm college GPA: 4.0
Essays: not great, but overall okay(I talked about my law internship/passion with law and family)

Extracurriculars:
Legal file clerk(paid internship)
Children’s tutor
Babysitter
Started a women empowerment club in high school
Was an intern at the youth group at my temple

I’m absolutely hysterically scared! Can someone please give me feedback?

Also, if your GPA drops after they take you, can they reject you later on?

@mrsbrightside59 What is your major? They can rescind your acceptance if you don’t meet your terms of admission, but it would have to be a pretty notable GPA drop. Going from a 4.0 to a 3.8 without any D’s or F’s isn’t going to hurt you.

@Mont2LA It’s Political Science. I read on their transfer profile that last year there was a 43% admission rate for poli sci majors, but I’m still pretty unsure what my chances are. Oh, okay thank you! Hopefully American Art History won’t screw me up haha.

@mrsbrightside59 Hey I’m a Political Science major too! Have you completed pre-requisite classes?

Can we stop asking each other to chance? Seriously the decisions are coming out in 4 days. Just relax and finish up this semester.

@Mont2LA Yup! Have you?

@forshevchenko Sometimes its nice to know that someone is in your corner believing that you have a shot. If it makes someone less anxious, I don’t mind giving them my opinion on their situation.

@mrsbrightside59 I am missing an articulated stats course (I took stats but UCLA doesn’t consider it to be equivalent to STATS 10 :(( ) , but I have the other 4 PoliSci courses. I think you have a great shot at being admitted.
