Thank you @Mont2LA. @forshevchenko this thread is for moral support as well as technical support in the transfer process. If you don’t like this side of the thread, you don’t have to respond to it.
@Mont2LA oh no! It’s alright, atleast it’s just one missing course. The state course is supposed to be Math 54 right, I think. What’s your GPA?
I got rejected last year because I was missing Math 54, but I’m an English major. I did have a 4.0, though.
@mrsbrightside59 I have a 3.95, 1 B in a major prerequisite unfortunately. The math course changes based on what your CC has articulated to UCLA’s STATS 10.
@Mont2LA That’s a really great GPA though! hopefully they’ll overlook that one course. fingers crossed for yeah!
@mrsbrightside59 Thank you! I’m hoping that they will see that I’ve taken Statistics, it’s just not articulated as such.
@mrsbrightside59 looking over what you posted I would be blown away if you didn’t get rejected
Going off of what @vvsharoom2016transfer said, my portal also says “Application Received.” Anyone else’s portals say differently?
@marchon Nope, mine says the same thing. @screenname34 hopefully you meant if I didn’t get accepted? If not, could you kindly elaborate as to why you would think so?
To check my decision this friday at Coachella or to wait until Monday…anyone want to help me decide which is better :-SS
it only takes like 20 seconds to check, so might as well? And if theres nothing you can just assume it will be on the 29th with Berkeley
@dkarbcs I meant more like if I don’t get in, I would be sad the whole weekend! haha but you’re right it takes a few seconds so I guess I should
@mrsbrightside59 your GPA is decent but all of your extra curricular activities seem cliche/run of the mill. Combine that with mediocre essays and it paints the picture of a very one-dimensional applicant who’s relative un involvement has allowed them to focus on grades. Communications is a very competitive major and I don’t feel you’ve done very much to set yourself apart. You’re pretty much counting on your gpa to get you in but it’s only 0.08 above the average admitted gpa… I don’t feel that is nearly a high enough margin to overcome an otherwise “white bread” type application. Hope it works out, but I wouldn’t count on an acceptance.
@screenname34. Their community college GPA is 4.0. They are not a Comm major with a 4.0. They are a political science major. They are incredibly competitive with those stats.
@screnname34
I see what you did there.
Oh, come on.
You totally want him/her to get rejected, don’t lie to yourself.
There’s something about his/her application that bothers you. Perhaps it’s the 4.0
Is anybody else working on the Regents app? :l
Lol what? A 4.0 is decent?
The mean percentile GPA for Political Science is a 3.75. You’ve gone well beyond that, and you’ve completed all your pre-requisites. I’m sure you got in, so don’t worry about admissions and just try to find something to keep you occupied for the next four days!
I just noticed something when looking back over the 2015 admit statistics.
Most impacted majors elaborate on their impacted status with this statement:
“* Demand for this major significantly exceeds space available. You MUST be admitted directly into this major; you will not be able to change to this major after admission to UCLA. Students are classified as Pre-Business Economics until they complete the preparation courses at UCLA.”
Then there are some such as English that state: “*Demand for this major significantly exceeds space available.” Which could still mean that admits cannot switch into that major after transfer. Lack of elaboration does not necessary mean that there is a difference between their impacted status.
However, then there are majors such as Political Science which state:
- Demand for this major significantly exceeds space available.
† If you are not admitted directly into this major you may petition to change to it. Petition criteria that must be met include: 1) completion of at least three preparatory courses by the spring before transfer, 2) a 3.7 minimum GPA in UC transferable courses, 3) a 3.7 minimum GPA in all UC transferable courses that will be used for the major including lower and upper division courses, and 4) completion of all remaining preparatory requirements with a UC GPA of at least a 3.3.
Ultimately, I would definitely recommend assuming that if you accept a UCLA admissions offer then you will not be able to switch programs. But if you would like to change to an impacted major, then there is no harm in contacting the department in seeing if they are open to petitions because clearly some impacted departments are. Of course, that is if you have a very high GPA and prereqs close to complete to begin with.
@sbccstudent19 also from sb going to Coachella. I’m going to check and then if it doesn’t work out I’ll let Coachella cheer me up.
Were you invited to apply to the regent’s with a 4.0 last year? I got invited to apply, but I’m really worried that somehow my AP units didn’t transfer properly, thus leaving me short of the 60 units required for transfer students.
