Hey everyone!! This is my first post on here even though I’ve been reading threads for the past year haha. UCLA has been my number one school ever since I was 12 and visited it for the first time. Since then I’ve been practically studying everything about it and really hope that I will get in!! If someone could chance me that would be so awesome

Estimated Gpa after Fall: 3.88

I’m super super nervous to get started on the process!! Good luck to everyone applying! Yay for Class of 2018!!

@lwoods96 I think you have a really solid shot. Average admitted GPA for your major was a 3.48 in 2014, and the admit rate was 63.57%.

Hey guys, A quick question…
Do I have to finish my major prereq by the end of the spring or does completing them by the end of this fall will make me more competitive ?
Thks

@VeniVidiVici1 I’ve talked to several UCLA campus reps and they seem to be super anal about having them finished by the fall, but i don’t think that will make a huge difference (having them by the spring)

Thks  @themightybicycle

My first post here as well… I would love to get a chance at my stats. I know my current gpa is pretty low, I ended up getting really busy with extra ECs and such.

Major: Astrophysics
Gpa: 3.52, UC transfer gpa says 3.61
Estimated Gpa after Fall: 3.63
Pre-Reqs: Missing physics 3
IGETC: Finished after fall 2015
ECs: student government senator and vice president, ssccc, swim, waterpolo, honors program, phi theta kappa, a few clubs

I am not sure if I would get a chance with these stats:

Major: Cognitive Science
GPA: 3.54
ECs: Working part time ~12 hours per week, volunteer at a blood center for 2-3 hours per week. I am also planning to go for another volunteer job at a nearby VA hospital, student government, and will probably be in a work-study this year.
Other: I am transferring after a year since I got into a dual-enrollment when I was in high school, gaining 20 units, graduating early in march then continued CCC, taking full load classes per quarter. I currently now have 45 UC transferrable quarter units, and will have 105 by the end of spring.
Will finish IGETC by the end of spring as well.
Immigrant/First Generation who will go to College
Essay: the major prompt – mostly about my awakening at a high school summer program where I got a scholarship; the other prompt – still have no idea

I know that my ECs might have nothing to do with my major but I plan to go cognitive science with an emphasis in neuroscience, which is why all of my ECs are not tech-related. Anyway, I would really appreciate any input! Thank you!

@avc118 You have a shot. In 2014, the average admitted GPA was a 3.71, and the average attending GPA was a 3.65 (source: https://www.admissions.ucla.edu/prospect/adm_tr/Tr_Prof14_mjr.htm ).

Will you be completing all prereq’s? Try to write excellent essays (write, revise, get feedback, etc). Good luck!

Edit: Oh, and they’ll consider your GPA as it stands by the end of the Fall term. If you can, raise your GPA - it’ll boost your chances.

@goldencub Really?! Thank you so much. I really hope to get really good grades this Fall as I really messed my grades up in Spring. I am currently writing my essays and it has been excruciating as I have no idea how to start, anyway, really, thank you. Good luck to you too!

@avc118 no problem. let me know if you want any feedback on your essays or anything like that.

Does anyone know if on the UC app we should put (+) or (-) for our grades? Or should we just put them as how they appear on our transcript?

@lwoods96 put EXACTLY as on your transcript

I remember how stressful it was to be in your positions last application cycle. I do wish I was as dedicated as you guys and started the apps much earlier. I wrote the essays the day they were due and I was a time constrained mess. Start early and good luck!

Chance me?

@Panorama14 Not applying to UCB? I’m sure you’ll get into UCLA, and UCB would definitely love to have you.

Hey guys, I got some serious questions!
I got a B on Cal 3 in Spring(mathematics/economics), and I’ve heard that if CC students get a lower A grade of their major class, they already fail to get accepted to UCLA and Cal, especially when their major is competitive:(
By the way, I also got an F on HIST 102 and D on Eng 50, but retook those two in Summer plus linear algebra. Finally I got an A in HIST and C in Eng 50, but eng 50 has nothing to do with transfer to UC…
My GPA so far is 3.83, do I still have the possibility to get accepted to UCLA?
