FALL 2016 UCLA OFFICIAL TRANSFER THREAD

What major?

Oh, did you reply to me? Sorry that I didn’t mention it clearly. My major is Econ or Mathematics.

Whoever told you that about major coursework doesn’t know what they’re talking about @jailalter. There are tons of factors. I don’t know how it will play out re the rest of your grades, but the “A in all major coursework in a selective major” is not a rule.

@jailalter Is Eng 50 definitely non-transferable? Or is it uc-transferable, but not required?

I have no idea what Eng 50 is.

Ditto.

Major: Econ
GPA: 4.0 (community college)
EC: President of Social Enterprise Club, Financial Analyst in Student Union, some volunteer work. Going to look for job opportunity if possible.
Pre Req: Will have finished all the major requirement by the end of Fall 2015 except for multi-variable calculus. I have taken business courses and accounting courses as well.

Compared to a lot of you here, my ECs seem weak. This makes me feel lose confidence. My only advantage might be that I have a 4.0 GPA. I was planning to apply for UCB Haas and UCLA biz econ; however, I now decide to apply for Econ in both UCB and UCLA because of my interest in Economics and easier chance of getting in. Any thoughts on my application?

Also, my college does give out A+ for certain courses, depending on the professor. In my transcript, I got 7 A+ and 6 A. Does that give me an advantage?

Please chance me. Thanks!

@pgkb24 I’ve spoken several times to the UCLA representative who visits my community college (in Orange County) and she has told me multiple times that for them, GPA is their main concern (especially for impacted majors such as Psychology or Biz Econ). She has stressed that EC’s are cool to have, but it’s nowhere near as important as GPA. I was also a little nervous because of the 4.0 but not THAT many EC’s. I have pretty much the same amount as you, and when she looked over it all she said that it’s more than sufficient. So don’t worry at all! You are golden; just keep that 4.0 through fall semester! :slight_smile:

Berkeley may be a little more nerve-wracking since their admissions are much more holistic. But still, with a GPA like that and completed prereqs, you should be very optimistic :smiley:

I am currently a sophomore at Cal State Fullerton on track in hope for a Musical Theatre BFA. After much reflection however, I most likely am going to switch to just a BA in Theatre, so I’m also possibly looking into transferring to either UC Irvine or UCLA.

I realize that coming from a CSU, it makes it a bit more difficult to transfer to a UC… but what exactly are my chances to get into either of these schools? To get ahead I also took some CC classes on the side… it was recommended by our professor at CSUF, but I’m not sure how this will play in if I’m looking to transfer.

Major: Theatre
College GPA: 3.85
CSUF Total Units: 79.5
CC Units: 9
AP Credit for AP Language and Composition

Extra Curricular Activities:
Drum Corps International
CSUF Showcases
Volunteer Ballet Assistant
Along with MANY extra curriculars from high school…(should I still be listing those as well?)

Does UCLA take into account if you’re taking remedial courses? My major isn’t math or writing, but I’m taking two non-transferrable courses-one is algebra and the other is writing (I know, I already don’t sound like a strong UCLA applicant, lol) but how badly does this hinder my chances of getting accepted?

@goldencub UCB ?? You think so? Honestly i havent paid much attention to Berkeley because i understand how competitive the school is. My GPA is not exceptionally high either.

@Panorama14 You’re a first-gen college student who has been working/doing ECs while keeping a fairly good GPA. I think that, if you do well on your personal statement, Berkeley will look favorably upon you. Your stats are definitely borderline, but I’m sure you can create an excellent back-story. I know people who have gotten into Berkeley’s English department with similar (perhaps slightly higher) GPAs. If you can, I think you should apply.

@by3000 don’t worry about that. The UCs don’t care.

@goldencub … Yeah you are right. It doesnt hurt to try. Did you go to school there ?

@Panorama14 No - I’m applying for Fall 2016 too.

@goldencub oh okay. Well good luck to you my brother! Wish you the best.

@Panorama14 and you too!

@themightybicycle Thank you for your comments! It’s so impressive that you got to chat with the representative from UCLA and got the important information! Good luck for the application!!

@kimballyyy you can transfer from a CSU to UCLA. I applied last year as transfer student from CSULB and I got accepted into UCLA. I’m going to attend UCLA this fall. You should definitely apply to UCLA! Take some CC courses on the side because they will accept them. They didn’t accept my CSULB courses (keep that in mind). They review CSU courses on a case by case basis. They might or might not accept all of your CSUF courses. It doesn’t hurt to apply. Overall, you are a great candidate! You will get in!
