Fall 2017 Housing Contract - Has anyone received one yet?

My son applied for housing back in September, but still hasn’t received a housing contract yet. He’s been accepted to Aerospace Engineering (freshman) and has confirmed his intent to enroll (and paid relevant deposit). Just curious if anyone else has received a contract yet or if they are still expected to be rolling out over the next few weeks. Many thanks!

The returning students have received their contracts, and the date to sign them and pay the deposit just passed. So it is too soon for new students to receive theirs yet.

Thank you @NotSoPatient! That makes perfect sense – thanks for clarifying. Any idea when the freshman contracts will start going out? A couple weeks?

Sorry, no.

Just to be sure…intent to enroll is different from acceptance, right?
Also, the housing contract is where you would specify your housing preferences?

I emailed UT Housing about timing of freshman housing contracts and received this response:

We will begin offering contracts to first time freshmen on a rolling basis in the next week. You will not be able to access a contract until it has been offered to you, and you will receive an email that lets you know that you have been offered a contract.

@Axonta Yes, my understanding is that you have to accept your offer of admission and pay the enrollment deposit before you will be offered a housing contract. Once the housing contract is submitted (and you pay the $300 deposit), you can then specify your housing preferences (top 5) and roommate preference, if applicable.

@wvuhopeful , thanks for the link. The write-up on MyStatus is a bit different, suggesting accepting the offer is not required for the housing contract:

About the Enrollment Deposit
An admitted student must pay a $200 enrollment deposit or request an exemption by the deposit deadline.

Satisfying your enrollment deposit will make it possible for you to take the next steps toward becoming a Longhorn—completing your on-campus housing process and registering for orientation when registration opens, for example.

Enrollment deposits are applied to your first tuition and fees bill. Students who do not satisfy their enrollment deposit by the deadline have their admission offers withdrawn. (If you pay your deposit and later decline your admission before May 1, we will automatically refund your deposit.)

@Axonta When I submitted the enrollment deposit for my son, the MyStatus page automatically assumed that he was accepting the offer of admission and changed his status to reflect it. Even if you accept now, you can always change your mind and decline admission later on (not that I recommend doing that).

@wvuhopeful , Thanks for the reply. This is helpful to know.

Although some of the results from other universities will come in end of March. I want to ask if we do the enrollment deposit now, does this mean we accepted UT Austin offer ? If we change our mind later on, can we withdraw before 1st May. Would it cause any issues with other offer which may get in future?

@dreams02 Excellent question and something that has been playing in my mind as well. I believe the answer is no - paying the enrollment deposit is not tantamount to accepting the UT offer permanently- although it appears to be temporarily. You still have the option of refusing until May 1. So it should not affect any other offers received before May 1. Of course, you would have to remember to refuse the UT offer before May 1, if that is indeed what you want to do, based on what @wvuhopeful said about MyStatus.

You can accept and pay the enrollment fee and later decline it before May 1, and yes paying the enrollment fee is acceptance. The important thing to remember is that you have to decline the acceptance in mystatus BEFORE you subsequently accept any other school.
