@rainbubble I see, well since you can’t really do anything about it I would just focus on your classes and the applications. UCLA never said you need IGETC completed by fall for priority consideration and your major isn’t impacted so I think it’s best to explain the situation in the app and let it go for now
@Ohm888 @2016Candles @ericeo I’ve got another question, if you guys don’t mind. If I were to apply to UCLA under a different major that I have completed the pre-reqs for, such as Sociology (pre), which only requires sociology 101 (I got an A) and a statistics class (which I already plan on taking in the spring). Would it be better for me to apply as that major and then just change to Anthropology when if get there? Would I have a better chance at getting in compared to a major where all 2 of my pre-reqs would be done in spring? Obviously I would still take the anthro pre-reqs in the spring so that the prep would be done when I want to change majors. What do you guys think? Good idea, bad idea? Would it be weird if my personal essays imply my interest in a certain major for a particular campus and kind of neglect the others? Thanks again, I really appreciate and value your guys’ advice.
@junemoon I think this might get pretty tricky. I here that switching majors, especially as a junior can sometimes be a pain in the ass, if the school allows you to. If anthropology isn’t an impacted major I can see this plan working, but there is always the risk that you can’t switch and you’re stuck in a major your’re not completely into.
@junemoon, since both are in letters and science and Anthro is not selective, it should be OK to switch. On the UCLA site it says words to the effect: If you meet the required pre-requisites and meet the major’s minimum GPA, you may be able to switch into a humanities or social science major.
I know of a lot of people who switch majors.
Hmm, so this winter I plan to take English 102 but my girlfriend will also be flying over so I don’t want to try ;D
Anyone know any reasons why taking the course Credit/No Credit would be a bad idea?
@mightyMETA
I wouldn’t recommend taking any English or math courses P/NP regardless of your major. If you’re applying to UCLA, now is not the time to get lazy. I understand why, but you will kick yourself if you don’t get in, and you won’t know if the “P”, in English is the reason.
@2016Candles You’re right, it’s just too competitive these days. I’ll take your advice and be a good boy.
Greetings everyone. I’ve stalked these threads for a long time. I cant help but get anxious as I fill out the fafsa application and I list the UCs :)>-
I wanted to ask if anyone can chance me
Major: Philosophy
UC GPA: 3.4 (If everything goes well this semester) 7 weeks left and so far so good.
Major GPA: n/a Only 1 class is offered that articulates and will take it in the spring
IGETC: All except 1 science class (Will take in spring)
Degree: AA-T Philosophy - spring 2017 ( none of the classes transfer to UC’s, except the one)
Tap: No
EC: Just work
Academic Renewal: 3 years of w’s and a few f’s (Dont ask) Difficult time, and Financial aid office agrees with me
Ive earned the 3.4 since fall 2015. Only one class before that will count (C in psychology)
Im hoping my good grade trend in the last year and a half will mean something. The 25% percentile of those accepted to UCLA for philosophy was a 3.4 over the last few years.

Thanks in advance.
@racecartransfer So it looks like Philosophy 101 and Symbolic Logic are the two prerequisites to the philosophy major right? In my district (LACCD) and at Pierce College specifically, both those courses are offered in completely online versions so you might want to check that out to strengthen your application.
As a matter of fact, I’m enrolled in online symbolic logic right now and having a blast with it and can confirm that no physical attendance is necessary.
They say they consider grade trends as well, so I think you’re in the green pal! Good luck!
Chance me?
Major: Biochemistry
GPA: 3.93
IGETC: done
Major classes: will all be completed, physics and differential equations included
ECs:
-chemistry, math, and biology tutor (private though, not through a school program
I was working at math tutoring center my first year but schedule got tighter second year which is why I’m private tutoring.
-shadowing in the pediatrics department at a local hospital (dream job is to be a pediatrician)
- charity runs.
Kind of worried about lack of research internships–so darn hard to find…
Chance for me
Major: computer science
GPA: 3.91 (1 B in GE and 1 B+ in writing class)
Major GPA: 4.00
prerequisite: two more classes (Chem 1C and Linear Algebra), I will take both next quarter

Personal statement: I am working on it, I think I am doing well on that
About myself: international student, first generation go to school
@mightyMETA Thanks for the idea. I may consider that route. It appears only the first philosophy class is offered in the winter quarter. Will UC admissions ask for the winter grades as well?

@racecartransfer Hmm, I heard winter grades only apply if your school releases them by the fall grade report deadline.
No, from what I’ve read through in June, it compelled me not to go for P/NP on English.

As you can see from this post, that everyone is leaning towards recommending me to take the course as a letter grade.
They weren’t wrong.
At the end, it rewarded me. I went for a letter grade. And boom. Everyone’s recommendation paid off.

Just go for a letter grade, trust me. It’ll make you work your butt off and reward you for it.
As you can see from my post, I know your situation. Very nervous about either another compo course or critical thinking, but in the end, it’ll pay it off. Trust me on this one.
@laccstudent Don’t worry; I’d never follow through with a decision like that before consulting with a counselor, who told me the only courses I should consider taking P/NP are areas 3 and 4 in IGETC. Thanks for your reply!
if i get accepted and decide to double major, will they let me if it’s one of the majors we’re not allowed to switch to?
hey everybody,
I am sure this question has been asked 100 times, but I just want to be 100% sure it’s true.
Do the UC’s (including UCLA) really not accept letters of recommendation from transfers?
@gosteelers123abc I’m 99.9% sure they do not.
Hey everyone. I’m curious to see if anyone has received their TAG decisions yet since we are now in November. If not, do you know when the decisions come out for each of the 6 UCs?
