What do you guys think my chances are? I’m super nervous because my EC’s aren’t major related. Im a return student and first generation immigrant so I’ll be talking about that in my personal insight questions. I’m also taking 18 units this semester, 3 of them honors courses and I’m acing all of them so far.
I got the same thing from my UCSB TAG. I clicked on Status, it’s just a letter saying “Congratulations on successfully submitting your TAG,” and that the next step is to submit the applciation. It doesn’t say if the TAG was approved or not.
UCSB (as well as Irvine and Riverside) doesn’t tell you whether or not your TAG was accepted, just the next steps to take, which I guess would be submitting your application. @fakeman200@cmdchavezz UC Santa Cruz, Davis (my TAG), and Merced I think give you a decision and the next steps to take. I’m waiting to see what that’ll look like, then I’ll share it on here!
I am currently a second year international student studying computer science and I will be applying for transfer in Feb.
I do not know if they consider high school extracurricular activities so I will skip those and stick to the ones I have in college.
GPA-3.6
I don’t know if I am missing pre-reqs right now.
SAT-2120
Extracurriculars-
1)Research assistant in machine learning
2)Internship in web application development -to provide students,in a remote location, with the resources to access the only well equipped lab in the region to perform tests and get the results easily.
3)Summer Program- Studied server side programming at a govt funded research institute for one month and developed a messenger application of my own.
4)Worked as a teaching assistant/tutor under a scheme to pique the interest of and assist new students in computer science.
5)Again, I do not know if this actually carries any significant advantage but I have developed a plethora of projects of my own. These projects encompass about 13 languages and 9 technologies. Also, I have completed 5-6 courses online such as advanced algorithms, machine learning, quantum computing, quantum cryptography and Computer architecture.
6)Member of the computer science club which represents the university in various competitions. Currently ranked 18261/625000 on HackerRank.
I would also like to know about any university that I may seem qualified for and whether or not my projects actually matter.
Thanks guys
Hey guys, quick update. My calc 3 class (prereq) is really hard and I will probably get a B, mayyybe a C. I dropped this class once in the summer because I had to move in with my grandma to help her with a surgery. How bad would dropping it twice look on my transcript? I don’t have a history of repeatedly dropping classes. I could get the B, but it’d kill my gpa as its a 5 unit class and I could always take it in the spring. Also, if I get the B I dont think I’ll have a chance at getting into UCLA.
@LynAmmo Yeah I saw that too. And the confirmation e-mail that I got when I submitted my tag back in September said to expect a decision between Nov 1-15 as well. I guess we’ll find out soon enough.
Hey guys, I’m in the same boat as y’all. Just looking for some feedback. I’m a CC transfer student, and I was hoping you guys could chance me for UCLA/Berk. I think my situation is a bit unique - I spent a couple of years at an out of state university before transferring to a California Community College for a year. I am a resident. Here are my stats:
Major: Classical Civilizations
GPA: 3.65. Straight As likely this semester.
Major GPA: there are no courses articulated on Assist for Classical Civilizations.
I will have completed the UCLA History transfer pathway, and I am listing History as my alternate major.
I also haven’t taken any philosophy courses, and philosophy is a big part of Classical Civilizations.
Do you think that matters when it comes to decision-making time for the major? I talked about how Western Philosophy has had an influence on me in the major prompt. I’m taking a couple of PHIL classes this spring.
TAP certified: Yes, by Spring.
IGETC: Yes, will have finished by Spring. CC district gave me credit for a lot of the classes I took out of state and put me on track to complete the IGETC, but I am worried the UCs will still have a problem with the time I spent at an out-of-state college.
Do you think it will hinder my chances?
Extracurriculars
-Worked a couple of restaurant jobs during summers and now one job during school.
-Volunteer at make-a-wish foundation as assistant wish granter for two years.
-Volunteer at local kitchen for homeless for a couple of years.
-Geography tutor for geography class.
*Didn’t work, was not involved when I was away at the out-of-state college. Does this matter really?
Essays: Solid.
What do you guys think? Just looking for some feedback.
Thanks a lot in advance and I’ll chance you back!
@gosteelers123abc sNo you can’t do that because the same rules apply. You have to be admitted directly as a Transfer for those majors. You can always try to find a minor that is similar in coursework.
@imdonnee Have you completed your Anth requirements for the major? you might have a hard time getting in as a Psych major, as your GPA is a bit under the average, but I would not count it out. The good news is you’re TAP certified so you have a really good chance of getting in as an Anth major (they consider your alternate major as well). You should definitely be good. Over 3.6 w/ TAP is really good. As for the Ws, you may want to explain one or two of them in the additional comments sections. Don’t make excuses, just tell the truth!
@Deangeloyouknow Try to get Calc 3 up to a B as well, sometimes professors go easy on the final exam or curve at the end of the semester. That’s electricity & magnetism right? That sounds hard, one of my friends who’s an applied math major is struggling with E&M as well.
@justinmega1 Whatever decision you choose to make, keep in mind that if you get into UCLA they’ll probably want you to pass it in the spring with at least a B unless you want to risk them rescinding your admission. It might be safer to just keep the class and explain the challenges that prevented your succeeding optimally in the personal insight or additional comment sections.
Good luck my bois! I have my own uncertainties to deal with as well; I had to become a part-time student this semester so that I can work full-time for my dad which means I’ll be missing one recommended prerequisite. Also, I have to take the GED tomorrow so that I can get the best financial aid (I was a high school drop out and my counselor told me I’m screwed for financial aid if I don’t get one). Let’s do our best, boys.
