@junemoon I think your chances are quite good, good luck!
So I’ve finally finished my PIQ’s, I will be applying to several UCs tomorrow. I’m going to be applying as a sociology major. The schools I’m applying to:
UCLA
UCI (Tagged)
UCR
UCB
I’m kind of nervous because my GPA will dropped after this semester, but winter and spring I can bring it up.
Almost done with my UC Apps. For the “Activities and Awards” section, it tells you to put your awards starting from 9th grade. Did any of you do that, or did you mostly focus on what you did after high school? I don’t know what to do. Also, I don’t have enough money to apply for four so now I’m going to apply for three UC’s. I was supposed to apply to Berkeley, UCLA, UCSB and UCI. I can’t drop sb since that’s I tagged that, and definitely not dropping UCLA, so it’s between UCI and Berkeley. Which should I drop, in your opinions?
@cmdchavezz I mostly focused on after high school, because if they already don’t really care for activities, they definitely don’t care for high school ones.
Edit: Also it seems like you only have 14 credits? That will probably hurt your chances depending on the school, since I think you need at least 60 units for most UCs, no?Regardless you have a high GPA and if credits aren’t an issue, I think you’ll get into Berkeley.
@justinmega1 Thank you! And I forgot what I wrote before, but I have 36 credits finished at my CC, 9 from AP tests and 6 from previous institutions. After the upcoming winter/spring session, I’ll be adding 21 more credits, which totals in 57 credits from my CC. The only worrying thing about my grades are from the previous institutions. I took two CSUF courses since they were integrated into my high school classes and took two courses in Harvard summer school. My grades in all four were B, C-, A and D. As long as they look at my CC gpa itself, I should be fine, but if they’re looking at all my courses from all colleges combined, there’s my downfall. I really do want to see if Berkeley accepts me or not though, but I’m still not sure if I want to let go of UCI. Regardless, if I get into LA, none of this would matter.
Also, is it true that they really don’t care about awards/activities? I only have two volunteer things, one award and one extracurricular listed and I feel like it’s pretty lame. Should I try to add more or would that be fine in itself?
If you’re confident about fulfilling your tag requirements, I say drop UCI. If not, drop Berkeley and have UCI as your backup.
What’s the lowest GPA anyone’s seen of an acceptance to UCLA for bus-econ? I know its a 12% acceptance rate with average of 3.9-4.0
Any chance of me getting in with 3.6-3.7? lol
Can one of you angels realistically chance me to ease some applicant anxiety?
CSU-CC-UC Transfer
GPA: With fall grades, either 3.26 assuming I get 1 B. If I get straight A’s, then 3.3
Grade Trends: Mediocre A’s and B’s a few C’s. Straight A’s (maybe 1 B) this semester after revelations and change in lifestyle.
Major: Economics (NOT Business Economics). Range is 3.82-4.0
Major GPA: 3.5
Prereqs: Calc 2 in Spring
ECS: Business Fraternity (Exec Position); Finance Committee; Two Internships; Started photography business/service; Mentored a student
Jobs: Graphic Designer/Photographer; server at restaurant
Volunteer: Through fraternity philanthropy and at a local temple
Personal statements: Intimate and really personal. Explained drops in grades because of responsibilities and personal issues.
IGETC: Yes
TAP: Yes
Alternate Major: Cognitive Science
I am also applying to UCSB, Irvine, Berkeley. UCLA is my target school.
I realistically might end up with a B this semester with the rest being A’s. Would this still be a decent grade trend?
Please let me know guys!
@cmdchavezz keep in mind that you have to report all grades including Harvard and CSUF. If they find evidence that you took classes there and didn’t report them(and they will find them because of your social security number etc) then your admission will get rescinded 100%.
@Breakyourankles To be honest I was sitting here trying to figure out a diplomatic way to convey my despair until I saw that you have cognitive sci as your alt. major. Did you write about both majors for the required personal insight question? I can totally relate to your personal hardships BTW, it put a huge dent in my academic progress as well. Force be with you mate.
Hi everyone, I currently apply for UCLA in neuroscience and cognitive science major. I just don’t know which one should be my 1st choice (the other will be alternate). I heard that UCLA will not consider the alternate major in application in most cases (since I don’t have TAP). I also heard that neuroscience is very competitive and it requires all major courses fulfilled upon transfer. I just want to ask if my GPA is 4.0, finishing all biology courses, general chemistry (I don’t have 1 semester of organic chemistry, and also no physics), all calculus courses, statistics, psychology courses (general, research writing, neuropsychology), JAVA programming, complete IGETC, will I have any chance to be admitted to neuroscience major? (without organic chemistry and physics). I suppose cognitve science is less competitive and easier to be admitted? If so, will it be easy to switch to neuroscience later if I choose cognitive now? Since I prefer cognitive program in UCSD to UCLA (yet neuroscience in UCLA is better from my knowledge). Thank you very much. (As for my EC, I work as a tutor for my college, tax return volunteer and election poll worker).
does anyone know when the FAFSA for transfers is due?
@gosteelers123abc Some tin February or March, but it opened in October. I’d just say get it done the moment you can.
@justinmega1 the reason i was worried about csuf/harvard in the first place is bc i reported them, i wasn’t planning on omitting those.
@mightyMETA should we have writen about our alternate majors in the personal insight question?
@mightyMETA Why despair? Do you think my chances for Econ are low? There are typically 1000 less students that apply for Econ rather than Business Econ. It’s not much, but it’s still a factor. However, I’m trying to remain realistic and neutral.
Hey all! Had a quick question regarding the application. So I’m a student at UC Merced attempting to transfer to UCLA and I’m confused about what to report. So I took college classes during highschool and they are on my Merced Transcript for some unit credit. Do I still have to report them in my application? Also similar question but with the AP scores? Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks! (Note reporting the grades would seriously hinder my GPA which is why I ask, however my UC Merced Transcript does not count them for GPA)
@cmdchavezz Probably not, the goal is to try to get into your initial major rather than waste space focusing on your second choice.
@johnfuentesa You have to report ALL college grades. If you used AP scores as some of your GE requirements those must be reported as well. The UCs (all colleges really) have the ability to look this kind of information up and will rescind your acceptance WHEN they find out this information was withheld.
Does anyone know what time the applications are due tomorrow? I’m having a few people take a second look at my essay and I don’t want to find out its due at 2pm…
