@mightyMETA We can only hope at this point. Cheers to you and good luck! If you can, can you link me to the threads you read so I can ease some anxiety? lmao
@cmdchavezz MightMeta is right. I got essay feedback directly from a UCLA admissions officer, and she said to put your primary focus on your main major, as that’s the one that you’re aiming to get in with in the first place. My major essay totally encompassed business and economic theory. Good luck!
Scroll down until you see our boy getting admitted with a 3.08 GPA which is quite low for his major; if you want more examples look at that thread and like page 141 onward of the official UCLA 2016 transfer thread, that’s how I’m building intuition to keep from stressing too much
I’m an in state student, transferring from a CC (Although really its CSU to CC to UC like another user)
Major: Political Science
GPA: 3.5 w/o fall grades, hopefully a little higher w/fall grades
Will have the 60+ unit requirement met by the time I transfer
I’ll be completing my last IGETC course in the spring and I’m finishing my last major prep course right now
EC:
Honors Program affiliated clubs
Club officer for MSA all semesters at my CC
Speech tutor
Trying to get my A.S to be a paralegal
Community volunteering
Brief (very brief) political campaign volunteer, mostly making phone class and stuff
Can anyone chance me? Thanks good luck to everyone!
@amshamim your chances are good, the only thing is that polisci is an impacted major so that always makes it hard to tell-- especially bc of your GPA. But your EC’s look good. Ugh I also volunteered during campaigning season but I never thought to put it down in my application until now omg.
@cyclicalhype@LynAmmo I know that some UCs that have TAG don’t send out notifications of whether you were accepted or not until later. I know UCI doesn’t because I talked to a rep, not sure about Davis or any of the other ones
@UCmethere For Business Econ the 25th percentile for admits is a 3.81 and the 75th percentile for admits is a 4.00: http://www.admission.ucla.edu/PROSPECT/Adm_tr/Tr_Prof16_mjr.htm The ones that have red asterisks are impacted majors, which BusEcon is. It’s hard for us to say whether you’ll get in or not because none of us are professionals, we can only provide you with the necessary info to be able to gauge for yourself. Hope the link helps! Good luck
Ok I’m doing this again bc I’m really stressed and my application looks different from what I posted on here in August (the fact that that was back in August and now we’re in December gets me so anxious, time truly passes by so fast).
I am transferring from a CCC.
Major: Gender Studies (Alt. major: Pre-History)
GPA (ASSIST-certified courses only, aka from CCC alone): 4.0, not counting fall 2016
GPA (including non-Assist certified courses, aka including Harvard/CSUF): 3.2, not counting fall 2016
^ sorry if that was confusing.
Credits finished: after this semester, 36 credits. After winter session and spring semester, I’ll be adding 21 more credits for a total of 57. I might add another class just in case, but the rest of the credits are from my AP tests.
IGETC: completed.
EC’s: church youth group, election poll worker, speech and debate team member at my ccc, 3rd place in college speech contest
I still feel like my EC’s aren’t enough but I can’t change them anymore. What I’m most worried about is the GPA. Hopefully they pay more attention to my CCC GPA. But I wrote in my application explaining how my CSUF grades were a reflection of my high school grades, so hopefully they take that into consideration.
@amshamim yeah, especially bc for fall 2016, the gpa for admitted polisci transfers at the 25th percentile was 3.62. hopefully your fall semester grades can raise it, but in the end it really is hard to determine from GPA alone. best of luck!
@cmdchavezz So you did poorly in some CSU courses a long time ago and have aced all your CCC classes since then? I doubt they will place much emphasis (if any) on those earlier grades man, I think you’re good to go
