FALL 2017 UCLA OFFICIAL TRANSFER THREAD

On my end, I had a rough month at work and with finals and lost two of my As in major prep classes which drops my overall GPA to 3.35~ish and major GPA to a 3.2… not feeling too good about any of the 3 schools I applied to and it’s too late for CSU. & I have no classes to take if I spend another year at CCC because i’m done with everything… last option is to apply UCR or UCSB, neither of which are schools I have much interest in attending. Not sure what to do :expressionless:

@UCmethere you can still get into uci and ucdavis i got into both with a 3.1 it all depends on your major

I applied to UCI, UCLA, and Cal all under BizEcon, and I have TAP done for UCLA, only other thing I have going for me was extenuating circumstances + extracurriculars. At this point I just wanna throw my hands up and pray. :frowning: hope everyone else is having a better semester

chance me maybe? (:

@acal7504 your GPA is above the 75th percentile average for the people accepted in aerospace engineering last year. with everything considered, your chances are really good in my opinion. only thing would be the engineering classes, but since it’s bc they don’t have it at your college, they should be considerate hopefully. hope you don’t mind me asking, but how are you both a 1st generation immigrant and a white male?

@acal7504 GPA is obviously high, so that’s good. I think you have a solid chance, your ECs are fantastic and relate to your major. Loll how is being a white male a con? Take pride in yourself. UCs aren’t even allowed to pick you based on race/ethnicity/gender alone. I think you’ll do fine.

@cmdchavezz Parents could be from Europe, the Netherlands, Germany, Ukraine, France, Russia, etc etc

chance me please please uc to uc transfer from uc davis i heard people get into ucla with gpa not above 3.5 with certain majors

@acal7504 Being a white male is not a con.

@ericeo I’m sorry to hear that. It’s the individual that counts, not the college, so that’s for sure. If you have a lot of prereqs to complete anyways it might be wise to stay for another year; just make sure it doesn’t mean you’ll get an unfair unit cap when you transfer (I’m not sure how that stuff works). Good luck man

@“osazuwa ogbeide” Your numbers are looking good, but I would try to explain away withdrawing this quarter as best you can if they give you an opportunity in the academic update. Good luck!

@mightyMETA Would it be best to email the uc center and explain the withdrawl in the additional comments section. our just wait untill the academic update. Also is african american studies a highly selective majors were they the gpa requirement is high

@“osazuwa ogbeide” I’m not sure about the first question; my guess would be to just do both but you should consult with someone at UCLA.

African American studies doesn’t look too selective and your GPA of around 3.10 is higher than 25% of the students who get in, here’s the source:
http://www.admission.ucla.edu/PROSPECT/Adm_tr/Tr_Prof16_mjr.htm

just joking about the white male thing (: I’m a first gen immigrant because I was born in Italy but moved to the U.S when I was 4

@mightyMETA my first question was to see if i should add the explanation of my with drawl on my uc application that i submitted our should i do it during the update. They let you edit certain information once you submit the application buy email them info you would like to change or edit. Also im also confused with the 25% and 75% profile of students admitted interms of how it work. should i be looking at the 25% or 75%.

@“osazuwa ogbeide” I don’t even know what information you’re allowed to add in the update, so I would recommend explaining everything via correction (I also had to email them because I forgot to add one of my Ws).

So regarding that whole numbers game, it looks like they’re telling you the GPAs for the 25th and 75th percentiles of admitted students. In other words, consider all the students who actually got admitted for that particular major and assume there are exactly 100 of these admitted students for the sake of argument. Then if the 25th percentile GPA = 3.00 it means your GPA is higher than 24 of the students who got admitted, which means your GPA is competitive.

chance me, please.
Major: Linguistic and computer science
GPA: 3.75
Major GPA: 3.8
IGETC: Done in next Spring
Applying to: UCLA UCI (Tag), UCSD, UCLA, UCD
Pre-reqs: did not complete. missing one programming class, one intro to Linguistic , and one course in symbolic logic. Intro to linguistic and symbolic logic was not provided in my CC.
EC: Working as an IT helpdesk - full-time job(night shift), I am a full-time student
UCLA computer science major is so high selective major. the admin rate is so low. So I choose this major as round way to reach Computer science. I tagged UCI for computer science. I am wondering that I could add some computer science courses when I am majoring other major besides computer science if I get in UCLA

@mightyMETA Let’s definitely stay in contact and see if we’ll celebrate/cry together come April.

Can someone still chance me? My original post is on page 19. Thanks

@Breakyourankles You have 101% chance of getting admitted, congrats :3
