I distilled this entire thread into a comma-delimited file which I then processed into the above text file using a basic program (partly to help me study for my computer science final). To rank EC strength, I used a coarse scale ranging 1 through 4 (with 4 being the strongest, 1 being the lowest, 0 means I couldn’t rank because no ECs reported. I’m hoping to offend no more than half the thread where EC ranking is concerned). Under “Missing” I’ve placed a “1” for students who report missing at least one major prereq course and a zero otherwise.
One interesting thing to note here is that the average GPA of kids in this thread is 3.75; compare that to the average GPA for admitted UCLA transfers (I think that stat’s floating around somewhere) and we will have a good idea of how competitive College Confidential kids are relative to the admitted population.
Reading the posts on this thread is so nostalgic. I remember asking people to chance me and being rejected at 5 o’clock on the decision day. I was really depressed. My dream was crushed. I asked around if it was worth it to appeal. Everyone told me that it was not worth the time. But, I felt I needed to do everything I could to get in and I got in lol. I thought to myself “in your face you guys.” Don’t lose hope even if you are rejected.
@mightyMETA Nice! But I should have a 0 for ECs because I didn’t post my ECs and I should have a 1 for missing courses (the course I’m missing isn’t offered at my school)
On the UC app I said I wouldn’t have IGETC completed prior to transfer, but now I’m planning on completing it during Winter Intercession. Should I email the admissions officers or should I just wait until January to update the coursework?
I even wrote an additional comment on my application saying I would have partial IGETC certification completed so I don’t know if leaving that comment there while silently updating my courses will do me any bad.
I’m registered for one of the courses right now and am on the waitlist for the other. Once I complete those I will have complete IGETC certification. I’m not sure if I should email them right away since I am on the waitlist for one of those classes and don’t know for sure if I’ll get in or not.
Another thing, on the UC app I said that my school runs by semesters which it does, but this is the first year I’ve seen it have a Winter Intercession so I don’t know if I have to change the school coursework format to include these new courses under Winter Intercession (because switching from semester to semester w/ intercession makes you have to re-input ALL of your grades) or if I should just include these new courses under the Spring semester. On my school’s online registration site, the courses I’m planning to take for Intercession are all listed alongside my Spring semester courses on my schedule, so I think it’s still technically a Spring semester course even if the catalogue says they’re for Winter Intercession. Like, I think technically these courses could be considered short-term Spring classes. But I’m not completely sure.
@Ohm888 so I don’t have to give them a heads up or anything in advance? It’s ok if I just wait until January? Will that affect my chances of getting in or do they not start looking at applications until after the TAU is closed?
and thank you for this response and the one in the other thread!
@otoribashi they don’t even start looking at them until they have the fall grades and see what your final lineup is for winter/spring. And they all look at the TAU for that. So just put it there. You’ll need to update your winter classes there.
I would also note in additional comments in TAU that IGETC will be completed.
Hi everyone can you give me more inside on my chances on pg 22 being an african american studies major with an alternate in Ancient Near East and Egyptology. I feel like my chances is high due to my work experience during the summer and currently working at uc davis dining hall as well as with participating in black student union uc davis and Nigerian student association and christian fellowship as well work experience which i didn’t have last time as a sociology major. Also at the same im concerned about my gpa being on the low side being a 3.1 counting all my transfer courses from jc is not so high and my my major gpa being African ameriucan studies being 3.0 with one class taken comapared to everyone on this thread who has 3.5 and above. Also i withdrew this quarter from uc davis to save my chances of having two f on my transcripts but i plan on coming back. Not to mention that over the span of last time i applied my grade trends haven’t really changed still being 3.1
@“osazuwa ogbeide” I think you have a good chance. Your GPA is in range of admitted students for this major (it’s higher than about 25% of the students who were admitted to African American Studies last year), you work, and your ECs are great because they relate directly to your major and demonstrate the fact that you have a true passion for this subject.
Also I wanna say sorry to everyone whose stats I messed up in that text document, the main goal was to alleviate stress by demonstrating CC GPAs are significantly higher than average and to help me study for my computer sci exam (which I believe went quite well ;3).
Hey Guys! Fellow Fall '17 Transfer here! I’ve been looking at threads like these since high school, and now I’m ready to transfer! Anyway, here are my stats!
CCC Transfer
Major: Art History
GPA: 3.8
TAG: UCSB
IGETC: Done
Major Prereqs: All but one class not offered at my CC
ECs: Not many, mostly just from high school.
Essays: Good, I had a professor look over them before I submitted my app.
Other UC’s applied: UCSB, UCD, UCI, UCSC
Does anyone think I have a good chance? I feel like I have a decent shot, but you can never know.
Woo! Just ended fall with straight As including the last lower-division math course required by UCLA for the math major.
Hope you guys all did as well as you planned this semester as well. You know UCLA’s transfer thread is definitely the best this year both in terms of the length of the thread and the atmosphere of mutual support; meanwhile in UC Berkeley’s thread you have a train wreck of electrical engineering majors arguing and insulting each other for the last couple pages xD.
@SullivanStreet88 Oh yea your chances are looking really good for that major BTW; 3.80 looks really high for art history (and most majors really) and I feel like the larger the acceptance rate, the less ECs even matter.
Has anyone else seen the news that UCLA received the most applications out of any college from high schools seniors this year, ever? I’m feeling worse and worse about my chances as a transfer.
@UCmethere No one can say you don’t have a chance at Business Econ. Also, you have Anthro BA as your alt. major right? If I were you I would hedge my bets and take as many of the three anthro courses as possible by the end of spring; you wouldn’t even have to worry about getting As in them either as far as gaining admission is concerned.
thanks @mightyMETA! I’m taking two anthro courses in the spring, so hopefully that’ll fluff up my chances of that. BizEcon stats are unbelievable, at this point I’m just praying my ECs and personal insight questions are enough to move me from the maybes to the yesses for them. Too bad UCLA is notorious for being a real stickler for GPA…
Hey Guys! Fellow Fall 2017 Transfer here! I’m so excited and scared about my stats so here they are. Do you guys think I have a good chance?
CCC Transfer
Major: Economics
GPA: 3.86, I got a B in Calc I and a poli sci class
Major GPA: 3.74
TAG: UCSB
IGETC: Finishing up this spring
Major Prereqs: All completed
ECs: VP of Honors Club, PR of PTK Club, volunteering a bit
Essays: I thought they were good. I worked hard on them. 9/10
Other UC’s applied: UCSB, UCSD, UCB
I’m kind of getting nervous… I’ll probably get a B in one of my major prereq classes this semester and I’m not sure how bad that is? I have had a 4.0 up until this semester but there are only 2 prereq classes for soc transfer and getting a B on one of them???
I’ve taken other sociology classes before and gotten As but the one that actually matters the most?? of course I get a B…does anyone know how bad this actually is? I know my GPA is high for my major but is getting a 4.0 major GPA really make or break?
