@cc2LAuniversity Your major GPA seems a bit low for an impacted major such as Economics, though your overall GPA is within the 25th percentile acceptance rate (which is good). I’m not sure how exactly the major GPA plays out, but I’d say that you have a fair chance, considering that your essays are actually 9/10 as you claim them to be with your ECs.
@rainbubble You’ll probably be fine. Don’t worry too much about it.
@rainbubble You should relax; it would be stupid for them to base their admission on a single B which in the context of a nearly maxed GPA is more of an anomaly than anything else, even if it’s one of two major preps. I infer from your comment that you’ve taken other sociology classes which weren’t even required prerequisites and have gotten As in all of them; that should demonstrate both interest and aptitude already.
I’m assuming you’re referring to the class that corresponds to their research methods course right? I think the important thing for you would be to ask yourself why you didn’t get an A and then take the steps to develop the abilities that will allow you to do better in similar courses in the future so you can succeed at the upper-division UCLA courses when you get in ;3
Hello guys! Hope you guys are having a stress free winter break! Wish I was having one, Lol. I got 2 C’s my first C’s in college and it happens to the last semester the admissions are going to looking at. My major is Anthro and now my GPA is 3.51 and dropped badly and even though it’s still above the 25th admit for my major its worrying that these are the only two classes I took this semester. Can someone give their opinion on my situation? Thanks and Merry Christmas! Hope you guys get in!
@rootcause@mightyMETA thanks, you’re probably right. I posted that in a panic early today when I received my final exam grade back but the more I thought about it throughout the day the less it worried me. It’s already set and done anyways, might as well just try to chill lol. Finals week is almost over for me but it has definitely taken its toll.
To anyone who is still finishing up their finals like me… hang in there!! The end is near!!
Hey guys, I’m new here and I am also transfering for next Fall. It would be lovely if I could be chanced.
Out of state, international student, transfer from a community college.
Major: Political Science
GPA: 3.96
ECs: Probably the worse aspect of my application; all were done in highschool beside hosting events with PTK
Personal statements: Honestly, I don’t know…
@JaketheSnake13 I wouldn’t worry too much about it; UCs consider grade trends but I’ve read they also take notice if all the sub par grades were earned in a single semester. If you have a reason for doing poorly this semester, the TAU might give you an opportunity to spell it out (I’m not sure myself).
@htran15127 Well I’m in the same boat as you pretty much; high GPA but no major-related ECs (just work). I think kids like us have a pretty decent shot for non-impacted majors I choose to maintain an attitude of cautious optimism myself
@cc2LAuniversity I think that the most we can do is hope for the best. Given that you’re in the UCLA TAP program, I trust that you’ll most likely be guaranteed in your alternate major, to say the very least!
I’m not exactly sure if TAP would give you an edge in your preferred major since the program is so impacted. I feel like it should give some slight edge, though.
@cc2LAuniversity I heard if you are in the honor program there’s like a 60-70% chance of getting into UCLA. According to my transfer center advisor. @mightyMETA thanks for responding! Hopefully LA overlooks this semester. I’m in the TAP program so hopefully everything ends well for me.
This doesn’t have anything to do with UCLA specifically but I want someone’s opinion on this. I’m trying to choose classes to take during winter session. At my district, all the economics 1 classes are closed, but I have the option of taking economics 2, and it doesnt have economics 1 as a pre requisite. Should I just take econ 2 or should I wait to take econ 1 first? I think 1 might br micro while 2 is macro. I just really want to take an econ class and I wanna get some credits over with during the winter session.
@cmdchavezz Yea definitely take it; I assume it’s for IGETC since gender studies only has one major prereq, so it shouldn’t really matter which of the two you take as long as it satisfies part of IGETC. How many CC credits do you have so far BTW, ignoring AP credits?
@rootcause@JaketheSnake13 thanks! i really hope our chances are as good as you said for being in the TAP program!! or gives us a bit of an edge at the very least
Honestly, I am here to both rant and get hope for myself.
I am currently a community college student and this fall 2016 semester completely ruined my life.
I applied to UCLA with a 3.7 gpa, my major being anthropology B.A.
I had high hopes that I had a really good chance.
I will be TAP certified as well, completed IGETC and all my major courses will be done.
I was taking 18 units this fall and unfortunately it dropped my gpa to a 3.255.
I got 3 C’s, my first time getting C’s.
My anxiety has gone through the roof, I did not choose an alternative major even though I wish I chose undeclared since I heard they have a very high chance of getting in.
Please give me some feed back and thoughts on what you think my life looks like lol.
I will be taking winter course, 8 Units to boost my gpa to a 3.3 and then take 14 units spring so it should get to around a 3.4-3.5.
@studentwithhopes If you were TAP certified you had a chance to pick an alternate major. You should’ve. Anyway, anthropology isn’t an impacted major and TAP gives us an advantage, so that should bring you some comfort. Good luck.
@studentwithhopes I’m sorry to hear that you’ve had a hard time, but like I said to the other guy the UCs have definitely implied they consider if a lower GPA was the result of a single bad semester.
Also, there’s a chance you could update your application to include an alternate major by sending them an email here: docs@applyUCsupport.net
Finally, we might have the opportunity to leave comments as part of the TAU and if that’s the case you could use the opportunity to explain why your fall GPA was lower than expected
