Would anyone have any information on the chances for someone who is trying to transfer from a 4-year rather than a CC? I know that they give priority to CC transfers, but I know a handful of students got in from 4-years last year.
Also, here are my stats and information:
School: Private 4-year university here in CA (CA resident)
Major: Spanish
Alternate Major: Spanish and Community and Culture
UC GPA: 3.88
Major GPA: 4.0
Major Prep: Completed
Schools applied to: LA, Berkeley, Davis, Santa Barbara, and Irvine
ECs:
Spanish Tutoring
On-Campus Dance Team
Off-Campus Dance Team
Volunteering with a program teaching Spanish-speaking workers English
Also, would anyone know if the admissions committee will take into account that I am transferring in one year rather than two? (With all of my AP exams and the heavy course loads I took this past semester and this semester, I will have enough credits to be considered a junior.)
@JaketheSnake13 unfortunately no my honors counselors didn’t tell me until after I sent in my app that I would not be allowed to take all of my TAP honors credits in one semester considering I transferred from NAU just last year. But this semester I do have 8 I think honors credits so hopefully the admissions committee will recognize that! Do you think that would ultimately hurt me? But thank you that means a lot!
I know this might be more of an SC thing but would my dad being a UCLA alumni help my chances? Because I know USC really favor applicants that have alumni relations. Another would be if my residency and family income bracket ultimately hurt me? As well as my ethnic background? I know it sounds unjust and just plain wrong for a school to ever socioeconomically and racially profile an applicant but just wondering!
Hey guys, for some reason this thread didn’t show up for me when I looked for a UCLA transfer thread on CC’s search bar, but I guess better late then never to join in! I made the mistake of making a new one lol

Essays: Very Strong. Had my essays reviewed by four English professors, my PTK coordinator, a political science professor, my academic counselor, and a transfer specialist on campus. All gave me a thumbs up.
I am a male!
Yes, it is true that most people at UCLA, in general, do care about their appearances. It is LA, after all. But you will not have trouble finding friends. I would not be too quick to judge, these people are just as equally smart and passionate about subject matter and activism!
Also, it typically depends on what side of campus you are on. We are “divided” into north and south campus; north campus is home to the humanities/liberal arts, and south campus is home to the physical/biological sciences. Definitely, you will see a difference in the dress code between the two regions of our campus. People on north campus, in general, are the one’s who are guilty of dressing LA AF, whereas on south campus, people dress up in more everyday wear/gym clothing. These are VERY GENERAL STATEMENTS. Sometimes I see hella’ fly people on south campus, and vice versa.
I spent most of my time on south campus, though. Sometimes, I had to head over to north campus for whatever reason and I still do to this day. You most certainly do notice a shift in the appearance of folks. I am almost certain that you were on north campus when you noticed the dress code of others. Do not worry about this; this is a portion of the school, not the entire demographic.
HOWEVER, going out to our college town, there is no longer a division. People usually dress up in full glam just to go shopping. I myself am guilty of this.
All-in-all, we are smart and cute, lol. But I would not let that stop you from picking UCLA. We’re the best.
I heard that UC has taken in OOS and Foreign students in unprecedented amount and now they are under fire… And that they would expand admissions for in-state students. Did anybody hear that story?
Is there any African American studies major with a minor in Ancient Near East and Egyptology (B.A.) can you tell me how highly impacted it is transferring from UC Davis From looking at this thread I hardly see anybody in my major. do my chances seem good I’m not tap certified.

Why is UCLA everyone’s top choice? I am just curious.
@Eddieready You can find the answer, if you find out why it is your own top choice (if it indeed is)??
@Eddieready Well it has a good reputation, but i find that a lot of people exclaim that it’s their dream school when they don’t know much about it besides its good reputation.
I think UCLA is a top choice for most because it’s UCLA, lol. The experience here is literally like no other university. We are probably the only school that blends in which the culture of its city. You can literally be “So LA” on UCLA’s campus. You don’t have to leave, especially if you have a dining hall plan. You just have to accept your admissions offer and experience it for yourself.
We are the best UC. Sure, Berkeley is the number one public university yada yada but who cares? We are number 2, which is not at all a significant difference.
We also receive the most applicants every single year, year in and year out. That is not by chance, either.
Sure, the academics are tough here, but it’s a UC school.
Yeah that’s the only reason I asked. It doesn’t really blow my mind like it does everyone else. If I get accepted who knows if I’ll attend. There’s many other factors that will part into my decision. We will see in April.
@UCLAFFF actually i was in south campus when i went, it was for a STEM event lol. the people there weren’t necessarily super fashionable but there were a few i saw when going to the planetarium that looked more like they were attempting to be stylish (like think thirft store hipster grudge choker bangs kind of look) but tbf i personally didn’t think they were fashionable as in “damn that’s a cute outfit” it was more like “oh yikes you remind me of the people in high school who dressed like that to appease the tumblr crowds” and idk if they were north or south campus since i think they were just there to visit someone else but idk
@Eddieready it’s not my top choice actually
though from all the UC’s i do think it’s probably the best, just because personally i don’t like the culture and campus of uc berkeley (the super far-left liberal extreme PC culture yelling at people they disagree with ect. kind of thing. im a democrat but they take things too far and it’s just all bark and no results. it’s great they protest a lot but honestly they’re in the most liberal city in the world…you’re just shouting into a bubble, the stuff you do there doesn’t actually change the minds of people in red states. i just don’t like the people there, it just angers me thinking about them and i can foresee a lot of ‘arguments’ (read: people yelling “im right, you’re wrong!”))
but even then, i dont really get ucla. i never really got an idea of what they value or what they pride themselves in (havent taken an official tour there though so that might be why), and the reason i would put it as “best UC” is because of its brick campus. ive tried doing my research on their website on it and honestly everything seems so…decentralized that i dont really get an idea of it as a whole… when i was little i wanted to go there for its tv/theater/ect. programs but even then it wasn’t my top choice, it was USC. and ive known many of my acting friends that ended up going to USC or carnegie mellon instead for their acting programs. so i dont really immediately think of it as an arts school either until i see an actor’s bio state “UCLA” on it and im like “oh cool, that’s a school i could potentially attend, and this famous voice actor went there, that’s awesome we have somewhat similar opportunities” (not true btw because obvs you have to audition to get into that program lol).
and the people i do know who go to UCLA are like mini berkeley students (in terms of the PC culture)
i know a lot more about ucsb and ucsd though and i kind of regret not applying to ucsb, that campus is on a beach, not in smog city, and does a lot of undergrad research (major theme). ucsd is also in a pretty nice place though the campus itself is very hard and concrete, but it has its own vibe in a way and you know it’s great in engineering/biomedical stuff, and they have la jolla playhouse there too and a row of biopharm startups a block from campus. it’s just an epicenter for that kind of stuff (sadly im not a biomed student though so none of that means much to me, but at least i know it’s a leader in something)
so honestly i guess the only reason i wouldn’t disagree when people say ucla is the best is because of how it falls 2nd in rankings after berkeley and i personally don’t like berkeley so i would be ok w/ the 2nd ranked school being called “best”
whenever i ask people about ucla it seems they say the same thing “great place ! most applied to school! so many opportunities” but i never actually know what those opportunities are, or why people apply a lot, or why it’s a great place… those words don’t really help me get an image of the school.
also i tried the food there… only place open was a fusion place…it was disgusting
i see lots of memes about bplate and the other food halls but i cant tell if they’re memes about how good the food is or about how bad it is… ? anyways the food was the only bad part of my visit there. everything else was kinda nice but something just felt hollow about it.
BPlate, the predominantly vegan dining hall on our campus, has won the most healthy and tasteful dining hall experience of 2017, it ranked higher than all other dining halls. What you see on our meme page is just a gimmick. Ideally, people will not like bplate because it serves incredibly healthy and tasty dishes, but a lot of people here want the burgers, fries and pizzas which you ain’t gettin’ at bplate! Despite the perceived hate of Bplate on the meme page, it’s actually the busiest dining hall on campus. Haters just hate on it from the meme page, and the gimmick has gained traction from there so it’s almost automatic to support anyone who talks crap about bplate with a meme.
Also, if you are having trouble finding out what opportunities are available or what’s so special about the university, I would love to help you! I may not know all the answers (as my education and experience was sort of limited to premed studies), but I would imagine the opportunities for people in other arts or humanities is just as immense.
In comparison to other UC, the only thing I can speak on is my roommate who I lived with for a year. He transferred in from UCSB, and he said to me that everything was essentially a 180 degree turn at UCLA. The experience was different and better, according to him. UCSB doesn’t have a system where you can swipe your friends or family members into the dining halls, their dorms are nearly not as fancy as ours, and our GE’s are harder (which arguably equates to better education). He was also a music major, and he had lots of opportunities to work with faculty that worked on sound tracks to Star Wars and other big film productions.
If you have any questions or are uncertain about why UCLA might not be the best, I am here to bring you to the light! lol.
@UCLAFFF thanks! i definitely want to be enlightened lol, im a STEM major but am involved in performing arts, is it common for non-art majors to still participate heavily in theater/musicals/performing arts related stuff?
ah i see… i was confused about the whole dining hall experience lol. so if we swipe in friends/relatives, does that count as a swipe against one of our own swipes? like, if we have 3 swipes a day, if we use one for a relative, we’re reduced to 1 swipe for that day? the place i went to that tasted gross was in the south campus, it’s almost a bit “underground” near the physical science buildings…
what other dining halls are there? do transfers get on-campus housing? are the dining halls/residence halls all located relatively close to campus? how far is south campus from all of that?
I was STEM as well and I participated in lots of dance clubs, and so did a lot of my other STEM classmates. As a matter of fact, that’s what brought me closer to some of my classmates who participated in dance workshops.
And Fusion is not a dining hall, that’s just a small eating shop for people (mainly grad students) to grab a bite to eat between their classes. Dining halls are about a 15-20 minute walk from that location in the north west direction. Dining halls are embedded within the Residential Community, also known as “The Hill”.
The dining halls we have are:
***Feast/b
***Covel/b
***Rendevous/b
(Chinese Food and Boba, opened until midnight for late night munchies; it is also the only take out dining hall, which means you do not have to sit and enjoy your meal inside, you can enjoy it at home. It’s like Chinese take out.)
***De Neve/De Neve Late Night/b that you can afford with your swipes. The pizzas are huge and meant to be shared with friends, it’s a social kind of thing. You can also get the “world famous” chicken tenders here, which have an alternative vegan option. These services are open until 2AM for drunk bruins.)
***BPlate/b.
You are not limited to X amount of swipes per day, if you wanted to you could use 30 swipes a day. You are amounted X amount of swipes per quarter, and most students are not able to use all of them, even when you account for when they swipe in relatives/students who do not have a meal plan.
We also have other small cafes on the hill which you can afford with your swipes; they’re available for students that just want a quick grab and go. We also have a coffee bean that you can afford with swipes, and even cafes that serve healthy juice blends. There are some cafes that serve macaroons and ice cream, etc, etc. All of this is on the hill.
Getting anxious as the decision dates are nearing… What are my chances?
