FALL 2017 UCLA OFFICIAL TRANSFER THREAD

@LynAmmo That means a lot! haha. Thank you!

Hello Potential UCLA/CAL transfer students (fingers crossed all of you guys get in to your respective universities)
Is it cool if someone is able to chance me?
Major: Psychology
Alternate Major: Anthropology
Overall GPA: 3.68 GPA
25th% GPA for Psych is 3.72 ( according to Fall 2015 stats)
75th% GPA for Psych is 3.95 (according to Fall 2015 stats)
25th% GPA for Anthro is 3.37 (according to Fall 2015 stats)
75th% GPA for Anthro is 3.80 (according to Fall 2015 stats)
IGETC: Finished by Spring 2017 Semester
Psych Prereq: Finished by Spring 2017 Semester
Anthro Prereq: Finished by Spring 2017 Semester
TAP: Honors Program Finished, and according to my CC they will give me priority consideration for UCLA
EC: I tutor english/esl independently and I do a lot of volunteering at my church (feeding homeless, church university leader, kindergarten teacher, renovating the church)
Extra Notes: I recently dropped a class because it was a 7:00 am class so I have 9 units for this semester. I have enough units to transfer. I have 3 “W’s”, so that’s something that’s worrying me especially the class I had to drop this semester. I probably know I will get rejected at psych but hey I’m throwing a prayer. As for anthropology I’m not sure about my chances. It’ll be much appreciated if someone is able to respond back and chance me!
p.s be honest too! I don’t wanna hype myself up!

@imdonnee You have a decent shot at Psychology. Although your GPA is lower than the 25th percentile for Psychology, your TAP certification and ECs give you a good chance! If you don’t happen to get in as Psychology, you’re pretty much guaranteed admission to Anthropology.

@imdonnee Since you have TAP which gives you priiority AND the option for an alternate major I’d say you’re in for Anthropology (but I’m no admissions expert haha), just maybe pull your GPA up a bit just to be safe. Psychology is a little bit more difficult to gauge. Good luck!

Major: Math
Overall GPA: 3.91 hopefully 3.93 by end of fall (one W)
Major GPA: 4.0
IGETC: Done by fall
Major Prep: Done by spring
TAP: Yes
ECs: this is what I’m really worried about, nothing much besides high school stuff.
I’m in the honors program but I don’t know if that counts. Will probably join Mesa.

Can someone chance me? Thank you

Major: Statistics
Overall GPA: 4.0
Major GPA: 4.0
IGETC: Done since summer
Major Prep: All done except differential equations
TAG: Yes, UCD

I’m a hopeful one year transfer, and 28 of my units are from AP tests and 19 are from this past summer. Will it hurt my chances that I will have only taken 10 classes at CC?

Also, any other Stats majors out there?

Thanks!

Chance me?

ME! lol

@Rosedarling123
You seem competitive at UCLA and Berkeley with 3.8 Statistics and only 2 B’s.

@mightyMETA sorry for not getting back to you sooner. Thank you for the kind words! I will be applying with Statistics as my alternate major, which I believe I should be competitive for. In the end though, I think I’ll end up choosing a school that accepts me for engineering because I believe that’s where my passion lies. Once again though, thank you!

Hi! Can someone chance me?

I’m an intercampus transfer transferring out of UCSC.

GPA: 3.72
Major GPA: 3.6
Major: Physics
Prereqs: Will be finished by Spring 2017
ECS: I literally have none and I am really worried about it.

I’m also planning to apply to UCSD, UCSB, and UCI

I did badly in Spring 2016 due to some personal reasons, and that killed my GPA. Does anyone know if I have a chance if I do well 2016-2017?

Chance me, please!

Major: Psychology
GPA: 3.63
Major GPA: 3.57
IGETC: Will Finish By Spring
Prereqs: Will Finish By Spring
TAG: UCD
ECs: few to none

-working 30 hours a week during school sessions, 40 in the summer
-california resident

Jesus, everyone’s GPA is super high.

I’m worried I won’t be even considered competitive applicant.

Do I have any chance?

In state community college student.

Major: Mathematics
GPA: 3.65
Pre-Reqs: Done by Spring 2017
EC: Competed as an amateur boxer for a bit, but that’s only thing I did.
IGETC: not done :frowning:

Based on the transfer profile it seems like I’m the on the lowest range.

@bigvoot Don’t get discouraged; this is collegeconfidential, where some of the most motivated, overachieving nerds come to show off their stats. Also, your GPA is in range of admitted GPAs; it’s higher than 25% of the math major ADMITS of 2015, that’s how you have to read it.

I posted here with my stats a few months ago but there’s been an unfortunate change of plans… I’m a soc major and I was supposed to take my first (and last) math requirement class for transfer and major prereqs this semester but I ended up getting dropped from the class the day it began. (the reason for this being the counselor who made my schedule assuring me I had the placement test scores to add the class when I was actually a few points short. it let me add the class to my schedule but it took the school until the first day of classes to figure it out and inform me it wasn’t valid.) So in a frenzy I crashed a remedial class that would set me up to get in to that class next semester…so that’s where I am now.

But now I’m freaking out about how it’s going to look for admissions since that class was going to be my first transferable math class on my transcript. I’ve done some poking around and I keep finding mixed answers on how bad it actually looks to take your math requirement (both for transfer and major) the spring before transfer. I still have a 4.0 at my CC but I’m not sure what to think since I’ve head UCSB rejects people with high GPAs for this reason. I’ve already taken both english requirements but I’m still worried…It already voided my TAG with UCSC so i’m kind of stressing about it…

Also would it help at all to take the remedial class for a grade if i can get an A? I was thinking about taking it P/NP because it doesn’t even transfer and I have a heavy course load as it is this semester but now i’m not so sure. I know non-transferable classes don’t count towards GPA but since they do still see them I’m not sure if having a good remedial grade is better than no math grade at all on my transcript when I apply.

If anyone has any information on any of this I would love to hear from you :frowning: It’s all I can think about lately.

@rainbubble If I was in your position I would take the remedial class (that doesn’t transfer) as P/NP, just make sure at your cc a pass is a C and above. That’s just what I would do because you mention the heavy courseload. On UCLA’s website the academic criteria for transferring is, “Progress towards completion of major preparation requirements by spring prior to transfer.” When you send in the application they will see that you’ll be planning to take it in spring, so you should be fine. Or if you have a winter at your cc or check if a cc by you has one you can take it then, that’s another option.

@rainbubble Sorry to hear that! If it makes you feel better I’ll be taking English 102 this spring myself along with a few major prerequisite courses (physics and comp sci). I plan on seeing a counselor soon so I’ll be sure to ask them about this. I have to say that I highly doubt this will change an admission decision unless you were on the fence already, which you definitely aren’t with your 4.00

@mightyMETA Thanks for the encouragement! Hopefully I’ll be able to pull off a upward grade trend this semester or get all A’s, which will surely boost my chances. I hope you get into UCLA, you seem like a real nice guy.

@rainbubble Ok this same thing happened to me a couple of years ago when I applied. One of my UCs was UCSB and they’re sticklers for that stats math class getting completed, ideally by fall. However they told me as long as I had ANY math class with a letter grade (even remedial) they would be ok with the stats in spring, which was the only time I could take it. I took int algebra in fall for a letter grade (A) and stats in spring and got accepted to UCSB and every UC to which I applied. I’m now at Cal. Definitely take it for a letter grade – and ideally get at least a B.
