Hello, I got a C in calclus 1, and am scared that I will fail the dreaded CALC 2. On the apps I stated that I will complete Calc 2 in spring, but it didn’t look so great with the way the class was going so I dropped. On the other hand, I still have 60 units to transfer with by spring and have completed IGETC. If accepted should I risk taking Calc 2 in the summer at my CC again, or do you think they’ll let me take it at UCI during the fall. Does anyone know if people have actually got into the buisness program at UCI with a missing major prereq? Any advice would be so helpful!
Major: Business Administation
Major Pre-Req: Missing Calc 2
IGETC: Completed
GPA:3.7
Tag: No
@jawbzzz Hi there! Business Administration is insanely competitive at UCI. However, your GPA, though, is outstanding. Do not fret about the C in Calculus. They understand that it is a difficult topic. I for example got a C+ in Calculus 2, but an A+ in Calculus 3. This goes to show you that some people do well in different Calculus courses. Don’t let the C in Calculus 1 throw you off. You might just do extremely well in Calc 2. The issue here is that you said you would complete Calc 2 in your application, so you are left with two options:
Take the Calc 2 class during the summer, and notify admissions that you had a change in your schedule where you are taking Calc 2 in the summer, because you dropped it. You need to tell them you dropped it or they will see an inconsistency in your transcript (You can send UCI a message through the portal, there is a “change in schedule” option there), and make sure you get some type of confirmation that they recieved your changes (a reply, a thank you, or something from them).
OR
Don’t take Calc 2 at all, and notify admissions that you had a change in your schedule as well (that you dropped it).
You have to notify admissions regardless of what choice you make, as a change in your schedule without letting them know can result in withdrawal of the application. As long as you let them know and get CONFIRMATION that they know, you are totally okay. I do know that Calculus 2 is very very challenging. I recommend that tomorrow, you CALL the admissions office and tell them about your situation. You need to ask if they even allow you to take prerequisite courses during the summer. Some UC’s do not from what I know. For a major as competitive as Business Administration in UCI, you definitely want to aim for as many prerequisite classes as possible. Call them and see what they say.
None of this information is 100% accurate. The best thing to do is call and ask, they are very warm and helpful people.
Lastly, you have a solid GPA, and I am absolutely positive that you are bound for great things. Do your best, and be optimistic I am sure people have been admitted to Business Administration in way worse conditions than you
Sooo I’m pretty bummed out that I didn’t get into honors to honors because I was short one more gpa point I looked it up online and it says that transfers can apply the summer before fall starts. Is that true? It’s weird too because the gpa requirement lower than being invited?
Hi, I am so confused, too. I am also try to apply to honors to honors. However, my GPA in fall is 3.69, but after this winter is 3.7. I have not receive any email from them.
@AyGrey WOW! First off, I just want to thank you for taking time out of your day to make such an awesome response! It’s just so nerve racking taking Calculus 2 because the last thing I want is one failed grade to impact my gpa in a negative way. I’ll shoot them an email regarding my change in schedule, and ask whether or not I can take Calc 2 in the summer. Thank you so so much!!!
hey everyone, im a uci tag applicant and havent heard back about my admissions decision yet even though ive fulfilled all my tag requirements. should i be worried, and do you recommend i contact my uci admissions counselor?
I also tagged and haven’t heard back. I already emailed the UCI admissions counselor but I didn’t get a response. I also called admissions and they said to wait until April.
@sarsar101 I don’t think we will hear back until the first week of April to end of April. That’s what I read on their admission timeline on their website (:
