Congrats to all the transfers who decide to become Anteaters! I was in your position in 2015. I don’t regret my time at UCI and only wish I had more time to do the honors program.
I already had a life and career, but if you have the time and no major responsibilities emerse yourself in your campus community. What I mean is don’t just attend class and run out the door. Stay on campus. Form study groups. Meet with your TAs and Professors. Seek tutoring and the writing center if you need it. Attend special events and network.
Nobody wants you to fail, they wouldn’t accept you to watch you fail. Nobody knows your struggles if you keep them to yourself, and more than likely you aren’t the only one going through it. Apply for financial aid. Do work study. Do internships.
UCI continues to develop great resources for low income students who need assistance with nutritional needs as well. A lot of UCs, including UCI, have entrepreneurship programs on campus to help you start your own businesses while you are still a student.
Some of you went to school to change your lives, that means surrounding yourself with the environment you want to be like. Your college friends are going to be your long term friends. Choose wisely, don’t look for people that are just like you, but challenge you to be a better you.
You always get something out of the work you put in, even though the results might not come right away. That goes for the ones that don’t get accepted or decide on attending another university as well.
I just received a paper mail saying that I was accepted into UCI today but on the website, it still doesn’t show any decisions yet, should I be worried?
@sokhak if anything you should be happy you got some form of acceptance, I’m sure your portal will update soon too
@Sokhak I also got the same thing today, I wonder what that means.
@sokhak I also got the same thing today, I wonder what that means. no update on the website too
@Mrlndomie Hopfully it will be updated soon, cuz I want to make sure that I got into my Intended major instead of alternative major. Maybe give them a call on Monday? That’s what I’m thinking
@BLK Congrats! Did you have all your major pre-requisites completed including Calculus 2?
@Irecupero
Nope. Taking Calculus 2 and second semester accounting right now. Everything including IGETC will be done by the end of this semester prior to transfer.
Based on your past posts, I do believe that UC Irvine is pretty strict on the pre-requisites and required classes as they have stated on assist.org. I even called them about Calculus 2 at the beginning of my cc career and they said they might let it slide but it’s no guarantee. You would need to complete the class over the summer if they allow it. And I’m also letting you know that Calc 2 over the summer is not an easy class. I don’t mean to discourage you but if you’re determined enough then I’m pretty sure you will do just fine. Many of my engineering friends gave it a try over the summer but they knew it wasn’t going to work out in the first week. It also depends on your professor as well. Some professors I know hand out A’s in Calculus 2 like candy. My professor on the other hand likes to treat every student as if we are celestial mechanics majors.
Best of luck to you.
@Sokhak @Mrindomie my boyfriend also got the same thing today and we are so confused. Especially because a portion of his prerequisites are not complete and he just sent out applications not expecting much. Should we call UCI admissions or something? The skeptics in us are telling us to be cautious but I’m having a hard time believing they could mess up on this scale.
@breadpakora Yes, I don’t want to celebrate yet since I’m also still skeptical about it. If it’s not updated by Monday, I would call them. Please keep me updated if you get anything.
@Sokhak will do. do let us know if you find out anything as well. just glad that we’re not the only ones caught up in the confusion!
My Admission servers are down until 6:45AM for “server maintenance”. Don’t know if this is standard practice or not though.
@BLK That’s what I was thinking also. I’m not expecting to get accepted without taking Cal 2 this spring semester. I have an A in Cal 1 currently, but I know Cal 2 is a lot harder. My only hope was to get accepted based on a contingency that I take Cal 2 in the summer. I just don’t know if that has ever happened to anyone. I am also nervous to take it in the summer, but I am willing to do it if that allows me to be accepted this year. I appreciate the info! I will keep my fingers crossed, and congrats again!

What are everyone’s thoughts on this scenario: What if I get accepted into an alternate major, then I take Cal 2 in the summer, and request a major change to my real major before school starts. I will then have all the major pre-requisites and a good GPA(assuming I do well in Cal 2). Would my chances be higher of getting into my preferred major that way, or just wait and appeal if I don’t get in? If I appeal, the only legitimate point I would have is my good grade in Cal 1 this spring, and proof of enrollment of my Cal 2 class in the summer. Not sure which way to go about this. Any insight would be appreciated, thanks!

@BLK Good to see you here my fellow Haas applicant. Congrats on getting into UCI! I’m still waiting for my decision [-(
@Ak1097 Ayyyy what’s up! Thanks and I’m pretty sure you’ll get in as well! They’re rolling out decisions throughout the entire month so there’s still lots of time. UCI is my second choice after Haas so I do see myself going here since I have lots of old high school friends that go to UCI. I heard the vibe there is pretty chill and the professors are pretty good for business as well. Good luck to you for both Haas and Paul Merage!
For those of you who did not get an official letter saying you got in, are you trying to transfer from a 4 year university to UCI or from a community college? Because I got a letter as well saying i was admitted, but my portal doesn’t say anything either. Im trying to transfer from a 4 year cal state to UCI.
