@sarsar101 3.5 GPA.
Major: Computer Science.
Does anybody know exactly how much financial aid the school/government provides to you? Since I am turning 24 and have a minimal income with below threshold asset, net cost calculator suggests I will receive about $24000 per year in grant. I am awarded Cal Grant B which is about $14000 so I wonder where the $10000 difference comes from?
@uctransferhopeful I signed into my portal. They sent a message at first that told me they had received my request, then another when it was denied
It looks like they are going to release in batches either on Thursday or Friday since no one has yet heard back yet these past few days!
Good luck everyone! (:
@anthonydavis I actually completed all of my coursework at PCC. I’ve gotten accepted to UCSB and UCR so far, although my top choice is USC. What about yourself?
@riceball123 Hello, fellow Lancer!
@SabPardo those are the two UCs I got into as well as Pomona! For me I’d say my top choice is UCLA or UCSD, but I’d be happy getting into UCI too. @riceball123 What are both your majors? I see that you said you are also waiting on UCLA, are you tap certified?
@sarsar101 3.90 here.
@anthonydavis @SabPardo yes I’m tap certified! My major choices are kinda doozy I applied as accounting - Econ for ucsb, business admin for UCR and polisci for ucla and UCI but I’m trying to change my major to business Econ :))
@riceball123 Those are my exact majors for UCR and UCSB! I applied to UCLA and UCI as well with no intention of getting accepted due to missing the calc prereq.
@anthonydavis what majors did you apply for?
Good luck to you both!
@alliot the other 10k will come from federal grants, UCI grants etc! The remaining difference of the 24k will be from student loans and work study!
Since you mentioned calgrant, You know what’s frustrating? I saw in my calgrant page that I was to be awarded 12k each for calgrant A and B then I checked it again the following day, AND IT WAS GONE. I called calgrant and they said it’s because I don’t qualify because I made $3,000 and some people made $0 last year. I really think it’s just because UCI hasn’t given us our award package yet. Sorry for the rant :))
@SabPardo someone in this forum said something about their friend being accepted without doing any calculus, only business calc!
Update:
I have literally looked through every community colleges course schedules in southern California just to find something I can add for spring term x_x and I FINALLY found a course at Santa Ana College that could bring my units from 59.5 to 60.5. Today was the last day I could add for their spring course but it worked out. Shout out to Santa Ana College ily ;-;
@riceball123 Well the disqualification for Cal Grant B is that your family or you make certain amount, right? I myself made $6000 last year but I am no longer employed, and I will be independent since I am turning 24 this year. My Cal Grant website still says I am awarded Cal Grant B, so should how much you made the year prior matter if it’s below the threshold?
@riceball123 If the Cal Grant withdraws their offer that was there in the first place, there should have been an explanation on the website as to why it was withdrawn, I guess. The reason seems odd though. I’m pretty sure you have seen this, but I will put it out there for reference. https://www.csac.ca.gov/sites/main/files/file-attachments/g-20_disqualificationfactsheet.pdf
@alliot I’m turning 24 in three weeks so I’m independent and am no longer employed as well.
@alliot it didn’t show a reason either. They were asking me to prove that I had it before it disappeared by showing a screenshot, which of course I do not have. I was crying I couldn’t believe it.
@jensenforthree Congrats! I am waiting on UCLA right now. I hear the UCI Sociology department is great! I specifically want to focus on education, and they have really good education program there. I’m not sure what to expect from the Sociology dept., but here’s a link for my information: https://www.sociology.uci.edu/index.php
