Fall break

Do people usually go home for fall break? It is a week long correct?

Fall break is usually just a three day weekend. This year, Fall break is Friday, October 11. Some kids go home, if they live close enough. My D and her friends rented a cabin in the mountains last year. But, it’s really not enough time for most kids to go home.

Thanksgiving week has class Monday and Friday classes on tues. my D has no classes on Fridays. Do professors usually hold classes on mon, airfare is a lot cheaper earlier on Monday.

Can’t help you with Thanksgiving…my kid has never come home. I would suspect that most professors still have Monday classes. But I suppose you’d have to check with the individual professor.

Do dorms remain open?

The only break where residence halls fully close down is for winter break in between semesters in December/January, which is about 4 weeks long. One or two do remain open for international students. For any other break, it’s totally possible to remain on campus in the residence halls.

I think TDR closes over Thanksgiving break. But there are still plenty of places near campus to eat - and kitchens in most of the dorms. My D and some of her friends had fun cooking their own Thanksgiving meal, although I think they cheated on the turkey and purchased it precooked from Whole Foods!
