Does anyone know how we can find out about the final exam schedule for this semester? I read somewhere (?) that we should have a sense of the students’ exam schedule once they’d registered for classes. I’m trying to figure out my son’s flight reservations for winter break now because I heard on the news that airfares were going to go up substantially in Oct.

I did find on the AC website a schedule for Spring '08 exams. Any parents or students have experience with when we might know the schedule for this semester?

It really depends on the professor. My daughter didn't have any exams during the exam week. A couple of her professors gave exams the (those that had exams), the last day of class. However, a couple of her professors gave the students until the end of exam week to turn in papers. Many students turned them in early and left. Last year's exam schedule is still on Amherst's website. Check it to get a sense of which courses always give exams during exam week. Usually, they're big classes. This won't give you the definite dates but will at least give you some sense of what courses have their exams during exam week. Congratulations on your son's admission to Amherst. It's an awesome college.

It will be a few more weeks until the finals schedule comes out. It will be available on the website (in the same place as the Spring '08 schedule) when it does.

Thanks, Impw and Catfish. I tried to find his classes on the list from last spring, but I only found one on the exam list. The others, however, were not on the "no exam" list or anywhere else. I guess I'll just monitor the airfares for next few weeks and hope the fall exam schedule turns up fairly soon. Otherwise, I'll just book a flight for him that leaves at the end of exam week and he'll just have to hang around campus for the week. That would be okay because he's in a winter sport and he can always use the practices, but for me it's not so great. Mostly because since he is in a winter sport he is expected back for practices before the end of Dec. It'll be a short winter break visit! We live so far away that winter and summer break is all we'll ever see of him.
