Any tips for this weekend? Things like your favorite restaurants near campus, where to park for the football game, places to visit

Hmm…

Parking is probably the easiest question. Those without a parking pass usually park in the Lawrence Joel (basketball stadium) parking lot across the road from the football stadium. It might add a 5 minute walk to the front gate if you are in the furthest part of the Joel lot.

Lots of people like to check out Old Salem as a place to visit.

The most popular restaurant really close to campus is The Village Tavern. It’s okay, but I’d recommend venturing a little further off campus–I like the downtown area: Mellow Mushroom (pizza), Finnegan’s Wake (Irish Pub), West End Cafe (sandwiches and other fare), and 4th Street Filling Station (eclectic, though most pricey of this group)–all are nice and not budget breakers unless you go for something like the surf and turf at the Filling Station.

I’m sure someone else will give even better suggestions…but someone had to get it started.

From the weather forecast, I’d say definitely bring your umbrella!

We learned from D’s freshman year (she’s now a junior) that there are tremendous advantages to staying at the Marriott on University Parkway – we stroll down the side street by the hotel right to the stadium! No parking problems at all!

Unless the weather delays our flights, we’re looking forward to finally getting to visit Reynolda House. D has a few restaurants lined up for us. One we like is Sweet Potatoes.
