FAQ for USC Admissions

sat 2: 710 us history 690 math 2, 690 biology e
aps: 4 on bio, 4 on us history, 3 on ap english lang

AND IM A LEGACY!!! : DDDDD

You have a good shot for sure man. Your SAT is right within the middle 50% for admitted students last year, and your UW GPA is stellar. Oh yeah, and legacy always helps. Good luck and let us know once you get your decision back. Hopefully we’ll both be at USC next year.

I’ve received my package earlier today in the mail, but when I log onto USConnect, I don’t get an RSVP link for any of the visiting programs for admitted students. :/

Okay, USC accepted me, which is good 'cause it’s my first choice, but there was no mention of any scholarship in the letter, so I’m really bummed because I can’t afford to go unless I get a pretty big scholarship. Since they didn’t say anything in the letter about the trustee and presidential scholarship, does that mean I’m out of the running? Or would an invitation to be interviewed come in a separate letter? Does anyone know?

Also, I’m a national merit semifinalist, so I was hoping for at least a 1/2 tuition scholarship. Does everyone who’s ends up being a finalist and and also gets accepted at USC get one of those? It’s not clear to me from the financial aid website. They just say finalists who name USC as their first choice will “be considered”.

So far this year, the scholarship invitation letters have come with the acceptances, and those who have not received a scholarship mention with their package have logged in to the RSVP link to find they cannot register for the scholarship Explore sessions.

It seems to me we are seeing more students accepted early without scholarships this year than in previous years, so it is a bit hard to say for sure what the situation is. It seems a second postmark date has gone out - I am interested to know what those students find on the RSVP link.

*In the past three years, all early acceptances came without mention of a scholarship - the letters followed by a few days. In those cases, however, students were able to see their scholarship invitation when logging into the RSVP link. Also in the past, those accepted early w/o a scholarship were either Bacc/MD candidates or were later awarded Dean’s Scholarships. I do not know if that will hold true this year.

USC has thrown us a curve…

Well, I applied for Bacc/MD, so I’m not sure if that’s the case. I’ll wait it out another week and see what comes in the mail.

EDIT: I can finally log onto USConnect and RSVP, but it seems I didn’t get a notification for a scholarship (as in when you choose a session and a notification pops up?).

What does it mean if you apply by the scholarship deadline but haven’t gotten anything back at all?

I’m a so-so student, but I work hard.

How do I stack up for an undergraduate student at Annenberg?

Does anyone know if a student must notify admissions if they drop an AP class second semester? The class isn’t necessary and senioritis is setting in. What impact does this have on admissions?

Hello CC, i have a small question about the admissions process.
When i applied i had to input the classes i am taking this year, however i put one of the classes under the wrong term, and i misnamed one of them (i said AP American Government when it was American Government honors for that semester, however it turns into an AP during the second semester, so i am not lying, i just misnamed it for the first semester). will this negatively effect me? Also does USC really care about the 9th grade grades, bc i did pretty poorly (2 Cs) in 9th grade, but in 10th, 11th and 12th i have gotten basically all As (with a few Bs and B+s) and i took about 10 AP classes in that time.
thanx in advance

ironman, if your classes were listed incorrectly on your application then yes, you should correct the information as soon as possible.

alamemom, you are back! You’ve been missed, even by just us lurking parents reading up for our waiting RD-kids! I always look forward to your posts for the latest, most helpful info.

Awwww, thanks! :)

What is the purpose of the priority application? I filled it out and I was wondering if it boosted my chances because I showed interest.

if by priority you mean the december 1st deadline, that was the deadline for scholarship consideration

I meant the optional part I of the application.

does it mean anything if usc asks for the mid year report?

what if i dont send one in?

Yes, it means they would like to see your mid-year report before they make a decision.

I will allow you to continue to ponder this self-evident question on your own :)

Is there any overall significance to me applying after December 1st? I know I won’t be considered for scholarships, but to be honest, I don’t need one. I have legacy at USC and my parents want to pay full tuition. Does me applying on January 1st hurt my chances at all?

^ No, it won’t. You’re still given equal consideration for admission as long as you apply by the January 1st deadline. Good luck dude.
