How good is financial aid? I know there are many opportunities for merit scholarships but realistically I don’t think I would be able to get a full ride. Half might even be a stretch with the competition there is. My parents make 150Kish a year but we can’t exactly afford 50K tuition a year plus plane tickets home and such

The Common App for USC says “This institution does not require teacher evaluations but will accept up to a total of 3 teacher evaluations.” Does this mean that a mandatory teacher recommendation is not required? I am planning to submit teacher recommendations, but I am just curious.

One recommendation is required, and it can be from a teacher or a counselor.

I’m sorry if I am repeating a question, but: is it true that an application is only forwarded to a specific school (that is being applied to) AFTER it has been “accepted” by the Office of Admissions?

Also, for other applying students: is it just me, or is the Print Preview function not working with the Supplement? (The categories do not appear to be filled out)

Mine worked. Try a different browser

Ah, okay, the “Print Preview” button works, but the “Preview” link at the very top does not.

When the supplement says “In approximately one paragraph, please address the following prompt,” do they really mean it has to be in a paragraph? Would I be penalized for breaking it into multiple paragraphs? 3,500 characters is a very large amount to fit into one big paragraph.

I broke mine into 3 small paragraphs and about 2500 characters. I dont see the problem!

I think I’m getting a bit paranoid, and asking a lot of questions… but that’s the purpose of this forum after all. I really appreciate all of your help.

My teacher is asking if December 1st is also the deadline for recommendation letters. An email she received last year when writing recommendations for USC stated: “Letters of recommendation do not have to be received by the application deadline, but should be sent as close to that date as possible in order for us to receive and process them in time to be reviewed with the student’s application for admission.”

That may or may not be different for this year, since USC has switched to the Common App. Can someone clarify?

The letter makes your application complete, so my opinion is that it should be postmarked/submitted by the 1st. Call the admissions office to double check but why cut it close, you know?

Would this years common app exclusivity cause the “mid-range” from last year to be pushed to the 25th percentile when it comes to test scores? With more applicants this year, i don’t think my score (30) will even be in that mid range, possibly causing my denial. Or is USC more of a school that looks at EC’s (mine are ok- pretty good) Reccomendations (Great) and Essays (Good) or Grades (5.4 weighted gpa at end of this semester (5 pt scale) and a 4.97 uw GPA) and Rank (4% of 700ish kids)

MysticzZ,
December 1st is the scholarship deadline. Be as firm as you can be without being impolite or disrespectful with your teacher that your materials need to be submitted by the December 1st deadline or you risk being passed over for scholarships you might have received. Do not give him/her permission to procrastinate with your materials. If that teacher is providing your only letter of recommendation, it might be a good idea to see if your counselor or another teacher can be asked to step up and provide a timely recommendation in case that teacher lets you down.

Good luck.

Print preview did not work for my child either…tried both Safari and IE. In the end we reread all the boxes as filled in by the applicant and pushed Submit. It is done!!!

Teachers/counselors may be writing letters of reference for many students. It would be a good idea to write a formal note of thanks to any administrator who wrote a letter on your behalf.

Does anyone know how to use the collegeboard application fee waiver for USC? Do I send it to the undergraduate office? Do I have to attach another form on there as well showing my income level or anything, or do I just send only the waiver in the envelope? Help?

When do the first wave of decisions come out?

I’m wondering that too. When can we expect to be notified (or not notified) of scholarship consideration? mail/online?

The first scholarship acceptances have traditionally come the last week of January. Only a very small percentage of applicants will hear at that time. Most applicants receive a letter in mid-February stating that they are not being considered for the Trustee or Presidential, but are still being considered for one of the many smaller scholarships and that they will have a decision by April 1st.

Notifications have traditionally been by mail only.

You can see the timetable on the STATS threads for the past few years:

okay, thanks as always. and should we have received our USC ID’s or whatever by now? All I got was an email saying “thank you for your application, we received it” a few days later, so I’m worried I did something wrong and missed the scholarship deadline.
