Now that summer is here, and I am not running around like a MT chicken with its head cut off, I am going to try to do another overhaul/update of the FAQ page. (HUGE ENORMOUS thank-yous to Dr. John for updating the Big List while I was in school. Dr. John, I have no idea how you managed to do that while you are so busy yourself. Thank you!) I apologize for neglecting the page for so long, but here's to making up for lost time!

So, here's me calling all you members of CC for help! Is there anything that you think needs to be changed, added, any ideas? I know there is a ton of new information that has come out between now and when I first put this up. I was thinking maybe specific curricula for some schools, overviews of some of the schools that are most often asked about...there was a request put in for a links page as well.

Any help is appreciated. Just plain ideas are wonderful, if you want to just gather information (or posts) and have me type it up that is fine, or if you want to type it yourself then you will have credit in any way you see fit on the site.

In addition, if there's anyone else that would like to take a part in learning how to code things for when I'm gone at school again, don't feel obligated but I definitely won't be offended...I feel very guilty for having let the page updates go by the wayside.

Shauna, I am very computer literate (I mean relative to lots of non computer types) and would be glad to stay involved during the year in helping with updates.
Let me know what you want me to do.

Thanks for all of your hard work. As two CC kids are attending the NYU Steinhardt Summer Music Theatre Workshop this year, perhaps you could add it to the pre-college/summer program list. I'm sure there will be more information about the program posted after they attend. Thanks.

As a regular "lurker" and rare poster, I have found the FAQ very helpful as my S progresses through an arts hs and nears the college application process (in fall 2006). I've noted some very helpful recent posts on the current West Coast Programs thread that I think might be worth incorporating into links for the FAQ page.

I'd also suggest adding BOCO's Vocal and Choral Institute summer program to the summer programs list as a pre-college program. There are two CC kids attending this summer and they are finding the learning curve and exposure to BOCO faculty really stimulating. In its fourth year, the program is now making a much more intentional link with musical theater (rather than its prior primary focus on classical voice performance). As a two-week program, it may appeal to kids who can't alsways commit the six weeks most programs entail but still want college faculty exposure within an intensive program. There is an audition tape required.

Another add should be Walnut Hill's summer theater program. It is very similar to Interlochen's and students from the 6-week intensive summer program are often recruited into the performing arts high school, based on how their skills are showcased in the classes and performances during the summer program. Faculty from WH and colleges provide the classes, with some amazing master classes dropped in from faculty at CMU (who do a bit of recruiting on the side, from our observation!)

Shauna,
thanks so much for your service to the community in doing this! It's wonderful.

I have a very picky suggestion. I find the font on the website really hard to read - it seems harsh. I don't know how many options they give you, but maybe try some others?

The font thing could be something on YOUR computer, as opposed to the website itself. As I have learned as someone who does (amateur) websites sometimes, all computers cannot see the same fonts the same way. It depends what fonts were loaded, so to speak. If the font used by the webmaster is not on a particular computer, your computer goes to a backup font. That is why many webmasters use traditional fonts such as ariel and tacoma, which almost everyone has.

I don't know what font Shauna has used. One way to tell if the problem is the font or your computer is to look at the website on a couple of computers and see if it looks the same.

Thank you, Shauna, for all your work on the FAQ page and on CC in general. My son is attending a summer program here in Tucson that has never been mentioned. It is affiliated with Arizona Theatre Company and U of AZ. This year they have a couple of kids from out of town and are providing housing for them. This is S's second year participating, and it has been very valuable. Here is a link to information
http://www.aztheatreco.org/index.html?mainmenu.html&1
(if it works). Otherwise, PM me (or my son, David, who is going to OCU) for how to reach it. I look forward to meeting you in a few weeks.

Shauna, thanks for all the work you've done on that site. It's really helpful! What would be even better is if you could post a little specific information on some of the more popular schools that have been talked about on here. It saves people from digging through the giant thread. Links to school website performing arts pages would also be greatly appreciated. I don't know if you can post dates for auditions, but that would be great. Otherwise, we'll carry that on in here.

I just wanted to remind Shauna and let Doctorjohn know that I am available (and able!) to help with any updating of the FAQ page. So just let me know what you want done (and any codes).

I agree with Be-A-Star and think it would be great if there were absolute dedicated threads for each school, at least the more popular ones. I tried several times to simply "Search" for the schools in particular. For instance, if I plugged in "CCM" I recieved a message that the word was too short. If I put in the full name, I got, "No items found," which I knew was incorrect. It may have been me in that I wasn't doing something right, but I think instead of always starting new threads that somewhere along the way someone sees that it's been started before, it would be great if we had specific schools and then specific categories, i.e., "Audition materials," "Enrollment questions," "Vocal care," etc.

I don't remember if I have ever posted on this board or not, although I have PM'd some of you and have posted on other CC sites. I have a daughter who will be junior in high school who is very devoted to MT, and we have both been faithful readers of the CC MT threads.

I thought this might be a good place to mention how grateful we have been to all of you -- (including Shauna, doctorjohn, CoachC, MaryAnn, Prof. Himmelheber, Soozievt, nytheatremom) -- for all the work you've done and continue to do and the wonderful supportive advice you've given this last year, and in some cases more than that. The regular college application process is very daunting all by itself -- I have a son who will be a junior in college this fall and I remember his application struggles very well.

But the MT process is even more anxiety-ridden, and there is so much to learn. I have learned so much from all of you, and do not know how we could have ever begun to embark on the MT application odyssey without this site. With everything I have gained, I feel almost selfish to be a "lurker" and soak up the wisdom of others, but I really feel that I have more to learn than to give right now. As my daughter proceeds through the experience, I will be sure to try to give back what we have received through the generous spirit of the many contributors to this site.

Ahh, I wish I had seen these requests at the beginning of the summer! Unfortunately school is gearing up but I will do my best. I changed the main text color and background but it will take a little time to go back and change the accent colors (it's 11 and I have an 8 a.m. class tomorrow so I should get to bed soon!). nytheatremom, thanks so much and I'll be e-mailing you!

Doing a separate thread on Shauna's website of many of the more mentioned schools can be hard because someone needs to research the old stuff to find the information to post. As people know, we have now started various school-specific threads on this CC forum itself.

For now, I would suggest we stick to the new approach on CC, as opposed to putting it on Shauna's site. However, if people feel that more is needed (and they have a lot of time!) they can do some research into the back posting. Then they can for starters put the SPECIFIC link to the old material on the appropriate thread on CC. This is something any one can do. The time is spent in the research.

I hope no one will take this the wrong way -- but to really understand the process, parents and students should read as much of this wonderful CC MT forum as possible, not take the "short cut" to read JUST Shauna's website.

Her site is meant to be a starting point or a good reference tool for general information. Since everyone has different needs, putting detailed info about school A and not school B is pointless.

Therefore it is always important to add schools to the "Big List" and to add section on topics of general interest, but not to make Shauna's website into a substitute for doing your own research. Your needs are different than someone else's.

PS : Manuelo... thanks for the kind words. I bet you meant your thank you directed at theatermom, not me (NYtheatermom). We are two different people! She has been most wonderful in posting info, having gone through it already. I have a current HS senior and have benefited so much from her advice and the advice of the others you mentioned, as well as many others.

I later realized that I did mean to thank theatermom as well, and many others, which is the danger of listing people specifically. I also agree with your comment. There is no substitute for doing independent research and reading as much about the process as possible. I use Shauna's list as a "refocusing point" but it cannot replace reading this site, and the college's own websites as well. Just my thought.

I just now saw that NYtheatermom and I posted at almost the same time so I did not read that she thought Manuelo got us confused, therefore MY last post might have been confusing (got that?). I was complimenting NY theatermom on her suggestions re: the FAQ site and reading the MT thread, not on correcting Manuelo on whom to compliment.

Okay - did any of that make sense?

Anyway, thanks Manuelo for your kind words. And thanks to NYtheatermom for your acknowledgement and your own thoughtful posts. One doesn't have to have completed this process to be of assistance to others and your sharing of your experiences and ideas is always a help. Keep it up!

I think both of you "theatermom's" are special, and I look forward to meeting both of you, hopefully, in the future (NYtheatermom soon at auditions!)!

Shauna is absolutely the best, and we all owe her so much! Good luck with OCU, Shauna! We will try to see you this fall at auditions but maybe also at Guys & Dolls if our schedule works out!

Thanks Shauna for all you do!! You are an inspiration to many!!! My d has an audition at OCU 11/19. This is one of her tops right now. We have tickets for Pirates. Perhaps if you have time, we could meet for lunch or something. I would love for my d to meet and talk with you.
