FASET Orientation

<p>I am planning on attending the GT FASET orientation in summer. Any words of wisdom from those who have attended this will be greatly appreciated. I will also try to combine this with a campus tour with my family.</p>

<p>You’ll need to study quite a bit before FASET. Otherwise, you won’t make it through orientation. There have been quite a few who have failed out of FASET, so don’t take it lightly.</p>

<p>The best thing you can do at FASET is to try and make friends. Introduce yourself to people, go out with people at night, etc. Don’t go back to your room at night and watch TV or talk to your parents. The vast majority of people come to Tech knowing between 0 and 2 people on the campus so everyone is looking to make friends.</p>

<p>FASET tries to help you register, but you’re better off finding an upperclassman in your major to help you. They’ll know which professors to take and which classes you need to take first (for example, if a class is only offered once a year). They’ll also be able to tell you how much time it takes to get from one classroom to another.</p>

<p>As far as the presentations, the most important people to talk to are the Co-op / internship people. Most freshman don’t know this, but internship interviews for the summer happen in September and October. Companies will interview you and will hire you without a GT GPA (they look at high school grades and personal qualities). So if you want an internship or co-op in the summer between Freshman and Sophomore year, you’ve got to get on the ball now.</p>
