fashion--very shallow thread

overall, are the girls at cornell fashionable? like do they care how they look, and follow the newest trends
or is it a sea of sweats?

I don't think you could generalize so many students at Cornell. I would say some care about how they look and as for the sweats, it does get decently cold.

There are fashionista city slickers. And then there are flannel-wearing bluegrass banjo players.

Yes, and then you have the select come-as-you-were-born divas. [/Joke]

No one is looking at what you wear so don't waste outfits at Cornell. The guys especially have no appreciation.
But if fashion is a must, then who am I to deny?

Just please don't wear clothing tackily plastered in large words with "ABERCROMBIE & FITCH" all over it, thanks.

Hmm, I don't agree with Trakbabi there, some guys like it when girls get all dolled up (I'm a sucker for that). And I try to look as good as possible given my workload (dressing well makes people feel better too). So dress well, some girls do. But when it's cold, miserable, and the school hours are long, wear whatever you want. No one's gonna care.

"And then there are flannel-wearing bluegrass banjo players."

Flannel actually seems to be pretty in last year. I have no clue why because that lumberjack look is ugly as hell. That's just my opinion though :P

Also, Trakbabi, I think I remember discussing fashion on another thread somewhere a while ago... Or am I mistaken?

For some reason girls at Cornell think that leggings are a replacement for pants. I don't understand why girls were wearing leggings on Slope Day.

A popular outfit during winter time is leggings, Uggs, a long tanktop, with a hoodie over it. You'll see hundreds of Cornell girls wearing this.

I wasn't referring to the flannel you can purchase at the Gap.

A visit to Trader K's is a must.

thanks everyone for the response! i just want to get as well acquainted as possible to the cornell style as much as possible. i haven't had the opportunity to visit yet, so no clue what the people are like until i get there in 2 months

leggings are comfortable. easier to move in. and an elastic waistband has more give than jeans. its that simple. also, unless you wear skinny jeans, it can be difficult to fit boots over your jeans. with leggings thats never an issue. trust me, if it werent considered odd for boys to wear leggings, youd see plenty of the male cornell population donning leggings too.

what do girls wear to parties?

nice tops.

Haha I am so glad this thread came up...

I wanted to make a Facehunter-esque blog-- CORNELL STYLE! But I don't know how well that'll work... hmm

You have a mix of everything, but honestly it doesn't matter. Be who you are, that's all that matters.

Don't follow the "fashion flow"...wear what you feel like wearing.

Some days I'd go to class dressed very well and some days all I wanted to do was wear an old pair of jeans and a sweatshirt to class.

Do people actually wear snow boots? I've never had occasion to buy any, and I don't think Uggs are going to cut it up in Ithaca...

YES people wear snow boots!! uggs really arent made for ithaca snow...maybe for a cold dry fall day but water seeps into them all the time and the snow salt ruins them

I had a pair of Uggs this winter...my first pair. I waterproofed the hell out of them and they survived the winter and still look great.

Sadly...they won't help much where I'm moving :-)

But yes...people do wear boots. They really are a necessity when it gets slushy and wet.

I heard that in college the clothes you wear don't matter anymore. It isn't like high school wear everyone will notice if you came to school with the latest Lous Vuitton Bag or you wore the same outfit for 5 days in a row. Then again, the clothes you wear say a lot about you so it might be wise to pay attention to the attire you step out with.
