do they wear a lot of bling? what else do they wear?

Bling? haha

We wear togas. It is ITHACA after all.

And Uggs.

EATYOURCEREAL - I understand your question and I actually think it's pretty valid.

At a lot of private colleges (and public colleges), there are trends. I emphasize that for private colleges because private colleges tend to be more homologous in their student bodies. However, while I visited Cornell, I didn't notice anything that seemed to be too common. Take into account how incredibly diverse Cornell is. Yes, a large chunk are New Yorkers, but the vast majority come from all over the US, and the world. Not only are they different in their hometowns, but they're different in their personalities and interests. Altogether, it creates for a very non-standardized student body.

I wouldn't expect to get "in" on any trends within the university as a whole. Possibly, however, you could find trends within groups.

Just my two cents. Hope it makes sense!

^^
That is way too intelligent of an answer to a question possessing the word "bling".

sweatshirts that say CORNELL on it

"sweatshirts that say CORNELL on it"

I've actually wondered this. Is that true? All I have as college visuals are TV shows. I've never been to a campus while school was in session.

I figured it would be odd to wear a sweatshirt from the school you're actually attending.

On a slightly related note:
I hope everyone does wear "mad bling, dawg."

do you have to wear heavy duty snow boots and snow clothing in the winter to get to class or regular jeans/sweatshirts/coats

the more trendy types will wear clothes like the people on Gossip Girl wear...

i'd say the average student is what people wore in high school + northface jackets + ugg boots...

Bling, under the Cornell sweatshirt, layered over the toga.
Leggings, preferably fleece, go under the toga.
Absolutely with Uggs.

love the look

Cornell threads are always the most amusing!

There are a bunch of hipsters (of every ethnicity and creed) wearing keffiyehs, and skinny jeans. That's always fun to look at.

Cornell is diverse enough that you can not only find any study, but any sort of person/people/stuff to do, etc.
It sounds really rehashed and trite, but it's true.
You'll find people that wear incredibly well starched shirts, pressed pants, and shined shoes, and people wearing sweat pants ALL the time.

And on Slope Day, all bets are off. (I recall seeing a grown man wearing a robot suit made out of cardboard beer boxes.)

(But really...about those sweatpants.... - why would you wear those? "Hmmm, I don't know what school that person goes to.....if only they would turn so I could see their other leg....Oh, they're a Cornellian - mystery solved!" Like, for real. Those pants are silly)

i was talking to a couple of friends about this and sometimes, it's actually possible to guess which school a person is in based on how he/she dresses. hotelies dress up either because they have to for a class or because they just dress business casual everyday. some AEM/ILR kids might dress business casual everyday too. kids who dress "artsy/hipster" are probably either in AAP, DEA, FSAD or something like anthropology in CAS.

these are, of course, gross generalizations, so interpret them as you wish. i just think it's a fun observation.

Since I'm going into engineering, I'm going to personally give myself a wedgie and wear overalls, while walking with a hunched back and glasses so thick that my eyes become twice their size...

yeah that sounds about right? lol

^ There's a kid in the Engineering College that wears pressed pants, and Lacoste sweater vests like it's his job. I think he was doing something with the Minesweeping machine/ oil rig thinger. Or something.

That's true about the hotelies though. Them and the law students. Backpacks/messenger bags and suits....ugh.

Alright, so give me an idea of what people generalize about COMM majors? :)

Northface i would assume

The best are the Dragon Day posters:

Style & Brains v.s. Brains.

(Archies/Engineers)

lol I resent those posters.
