how do people dress on a daily basis at ucla? girls and guys.

is everyone nicely dressed? (this is what I think of when i think LA)
or is it more of a 'roll out of bed with a tee and shorts' type of school?

one of my girl friends is asking specifically if the girls at ucla are fashion-conscious - what's the style there?

sorry if this question's been asked before - i tried searching but didn't find anything; but point me to a link if i missed something.

There are thousands and thousands of people on campus every single day. They all dress differently. You will see people walking around in sweatpants, you will see people attempting to walk around the hilly campus in heels...

LOL @ girls in heels.

In the end of the day, it's attractiveness that matters. A really good looking girl can pull off pjs, tanktop and sandals, or even dress up in nice dress.

We're naturally turned off if a really UGLY girl is in whatever wear.

But spring and summer is a nice time to go to school. Girls tend to wear skirts and tanks. And a good amount of girls have really nice skin, heh.

Although it is tempting to go out in pjs, try to look nice. You never know who you will run into.

i feel that i should go to orientation first and see the fashion there b4 i go on a whole other shopping spree? I REALLY NEED NEW CLOTHES. i'm coming from MN and maybe the fashion is different there! i want to buy clothes that'll make me feel good about myself for nxt fall!

heh may sound a little ditzy but i still have lotsa middle school clothes ;)

lol no one will make fun of you if you arent 'trendy'. just dont look like a crazy person- thats my philosophy.

I have no problem with girls trying to look their best. :]

But I do have a problem with girls who overdo it, or try too hard, yuck.

Go to any facebook profiles and see the breadth of styles men and women wear. It really matters what you prefer. There are girls around that really, really want the attention. So they wear the appropriate (inappropriate) clothes.

Hell, does it really matter when you participate in the Undie Run? No, it doesn't. Clothes are optional. Undies required, though.

I saw a guy went to class with boxer shorts only.

undie run..? i vaguely remember something being mentioned on a campus tour

I don't think he did undie run cuz it wasn't final week... Maybe he tried to show off his six packs....

and also, I JUDGE EVERYONE who isn't dressed decently

i am sure there are many people like me

yes, i judge people based on what they wear as well. a hot guy is only considered hot if he has the face and the body and the clothes. haha without the hot clothes, everything else is considered a waste of hotness ha.

and dawritingmachine, dont worry about buying a whole new wardrobe; im pretty sure CA and MN have similar popular trends.

See it's all a matter of preference. If you prefer to dress up you come to UCLA. If not, then your likely to chose Cal.

Ok, that was a joke with some semblance of truth.

Whatever you do, get rid of the mini-skirts with uggs or the mini-skirt with leggings. Right now, bug-eyed sunglasses (white-framed) are fairly fashionable. Check out US Weekly or other tabloid magazines to see what's in and what's consistent over time. Cowboy boots and skirts were a couple of seasons ago and I'm not sure they took off in Westwood. Dresses - strapless, halter, etc. are consistent over summer. I think halter-cut ones are fairly common. You can wear flip-flops all year long. Somewhat flared pants (probably not boot-cut) with the fake folds and various shades of dark blues are normal and regular. You cannot go wrong with a good pair of jeans! I MUST EMPHASIZE THAT YOU SHOULD NOT WEAR UGGS! But sure US Weekly will give you an idea! (OK I didn't mean to make it seem that everyone dresses this way... just a casual observation!)

fashion is overrated. most people at ucla aren't dressing up unless they are sorority girls going on a date party. i own some expensive clothes and am hesistant to wear it on campus becuase it looks out of place and unnecessary. to me, the $10 corner store sunglasses look the same as the $400 designer ones.

would flip-flops be difficult to wear since there's lots of walking? especially up and down the hill to and from the residential area?

is it advised to wear tennis shoes everyday (to move quickly)? would i look like a loser if i ran to class?? (i'm one of the ppl who wake up 10 min b4 class begins!)

dude....EVERYBODY WEAR FLIP FLOPS...its not even funny. if your flip flops are broken in and dont hurt your feet then you're fine. as far as brands, most people that wear flip flops wear rainbows (reef is also popular among guys).

in the colder months a lot of girls wear UGGs....

i wear nikes year round. :)

yes you would look like a loser if you ran to class.

What kind of moron wears fur-lined UGG boots in Southern California?

surprisingly, a lot. in many colors. idk, i don't get it either...

ok, here is my typical wardrobe. i am sure i represent a good chunk of the ucla population (although admittedly, close to zero of the sorority girls dress like me. or i should say, i don't ever try to dress like them ;) )

jeans (comfortable, not fashionable. the ones i've been breaking in for years, that fit me well, and make me feel like myself, not like someone trying to squeeze into stick-thin no-spare-material denim leggins)

flip flops (preferably reef brand, the MOST COMFORTABLE and blister-free flip flops i have ever found. either that, or my trusty new balance 621's)

tee shirt. old navy is a good standby, or ucla gear. i mix in some charlotte russe or nicer shirts from macy's, as well as tees with slogans. occasionally you will see me in a button-down, or one of those cute flowing sort of tops, if i'm headed to westwood with friends or something.

sweatshirt. generally ucla-oriented. but, UNLIKE a few crazy people, i do NOT wear a thick sweatshirt when it's 80 or more degrees out! i love ucla, but not that much that i've gotta wear sweatshirt-sized UCLA letters, lol.

also, sunglasses would be advisable. gets pretty painful coming out of some math science dungeon into the bright of day xD

what i do NOT wear:

uggs, shortshort skirts, tight jeans tucked into stiletto boots, designer shoes, heels, designer sunglasses, tanktops/spaghetti straps that show so much it becomes awkward to look at, designer bookbags/purses, sweatpants with words/logos written on the butt, those weird short wide cloth pant thingys, etc.

now, keep in mind that there will be people who would post the exact opposite. people wear the things i don't, and wouldn't dream of wearing the things i do. at least not on such a regular basis.

so what my long and half-asleep post boils down to is, wear what makes you feel you. whatever that is. there are so many people here with so many different senses of fashion (this is not u$c where everyone seems to dress alike). but there is one underlying rule: people can sense a phony. just be true to your own style, and people will respect that. :)
