You need to try Hot Chicken Takeover. I believe they are only in Ohio for now but they seem to keep adding locations. Aside from their excellent Nashville hot chicken and sides they have a great back story. They focus on “supportive hiring “
“HCT provides supportive jobs to men and women who need a fair chance at work. No matter the circumstances — homelessness, previous incarceration, or other barrier to employment”
Definitely would have added this one but because it IS mainly in Ohio, didn’t. Really love it. And their concept. Also famous for its banana pudding and unless it has changed since I last went, Sweet Tea is free!
Do these hot chicken places have a mild chicken? Because my taste buds don’t do hot. When Bojangles got rid of their mild version I had to switch to their pork offerings.
No. It burns the whole insides of my mouth and throat. I’ve read that those of us who dislike hot spice have more pain receptors there, so IMO, no need to even try to pretend it’s different.
We have a local Burmese/Thai place that makes delicious food, but I can’t guarantee they’ll respect my “mild” request so I’ve reluctantly stopped getting their food. When they put too much spice in it, even if it’s mild by their standards, I can’t eat it. Fortunately there are nice Korean and Mexican places in the same food court, so if H or anyone wants it I can enjoy other places.
I’ll add that I do enjoy a mild horseradish sauce like the one Arby’s has - can’t eat one of their sandwiches without it unless it’s the beef dip. I’ll also do horseradish with kielbasa sometimes, but obviously small amounts go a long way.
I’ve no idea why horseradish is ok when hot peppers aren’t.
I’ve mainly just skimmed this thread because I don’t go to fast food chicken places, although I did usually get the chicken tenders when taking our son to Culvers.
Back in Chicagoland, when we wanted fried chicken, we ordered from Del Rhea’s Chicken Basket near the beginning of Route 66. About – Dell Rhea's Chicken Basket
When we want fried chicken in San Diego, we go to Crack Shack. It’s not really a fast food place; there are a total of seven locations: three here, one in Las Vegas, and three in Utah. It was started in Little Italy by Richard Blais of Top Chef and such fame when he needed to do something with the shack next to his new fine dining restaurant Juniper and Ivy. Our Story of Chicken & Eggs - The Crack Shack
We very rarely have fried chicken either but when my oldest first headed to college in San Diego, she discovered the Crack Shack with friends. She took us there when we went out for a visit. Yum! We all had different things and thought everything was delicious.
Unfortunately HCT has been purchased and is undergoing the transition to new corporate ownership. Recipes are changing and quality is declining. It’s sad to see the decline of what was a cool story.
