That’s what we thought when we tried them, although we wouldn’t say awful as much as, “meh.” After hearing people on here like them I figured we were odd. Different taste buds for different people I guess.
Awful, to us, is yuck - don’t want to eat it. That’s where Church’s is on our list. Meh is we can eat it, but won’t go out of our way to do so on our own, esp when there are other options.
Interesting tidbit about Raising Cane’s. They were a client of DH’s company and years ago, he was at their corporate office. I can’t recall the exact details or who told him this, so I may have this slightly wrong, but this is the gist of it. The guy who started the company came up with the business plan as part of a college (grad?) course he was taking. The professor disagreed that his idea, with such a limited menu, would be a successful business.
I guess the guy/student had the last laugh on that.
We don’t have Raising Cane’s here, but somehow my sons knew about it. When my younger son and I were coming back from a college tour/visit in OH a few years ago, he actually looked it up online and found one that was like 5 mins of the highway on our 8 hr ride home and begged me to stop. I indulged him but as I was in the process of losing weight/dieting, I did not order anything. But he loved it! He ended up going to that college in OH, and lo and behold, there is one about 10 mins from his campus. When DH and I moved him in, our son asked to go. After I saw his order that first time I took him, it just did not appeal to me…all that greasy food. So I have never had it. But DH tried it and said it was pretty good. Apparently Raising Cane’s is expanding to MD and one is opening about 20 mins away from us.
Part of the problem with Cains to me is the drive thru. It was designed by the Marquis de Sade. You have to turn left, go half way around the building, order, pull up, pay, dodge the people who parked and now are walking across the drive thru lanes, pick up food at a different window, continuing to circle left, cross over the people entering the drive thru, then turn right to exit.
This is a new building, built just for Cains, so they can’t blame anyone else. I drive by it all the time, but no, not going through that again.
That’s our problem. We’re not really sauce people. We want the skin on the fried chicken to be tasty. Popeye’s does that for us, no sauce required and juicy chicken too. I love their mild. H loves their spicy.
We put mayo on their sandwiches when we opt for those, but not on their fried chicken. Both of us choose mild for our sandwiches. Popeye’s only adds a sauce to their spicy sandwich. H tried it once and didn’t like it at all. We actually went back and got him a mild one rather than have him eat their spicy one. He gave it a fair try and it turned out yuck. No sense ever eating yuck to us.
The Popeye’s here puts a pretty healthy amount of mayo on the chicken sandwich. I haven’t tried their spicy version – if I got it, I would want to balance the spice with some ranch or bleu cheese. (I’m pretty saucy I guess. hehe)
When niece was little, I’d ask what she wanted at McD’s and she’d say “Ketchup. With french fries.” And that’s what she meant. One french fry with 10 packs of ketchup.
Now that you mention it, I think I’m confusing Popeye’s with CFA for adding mayo. We add mayo to CFA’s chicken sandwiches. We just haven’t gotten them there lately since we prefer Popeye’s. When we go to CFA most commonly we get tenders - and for me, their signature sauce with those. H gets ranch.
I know the dislike of the spicy sandwich was Popeye’s though.
She doesn’t share my taste buds at all. Ketchup would go bad before I used it. I only put it on burgers, which we rarely have, and bad tasting french fries, which I try to avoid.
Even in stuffed peppers or meatloaf I use Heinz 57 sauce, not ketchup. On hot dogs I’m a mustard gal.
No… but I’m thinking about it now. Don’t know the next time we’ll be heading to CFA though. We’re going to be in Puerto Rico soon. Even if they have them there, we have a rule that we can’t eat anywhere when we travel that we could eat at when home. I love the rule too much to break it for anything except to be polite when we visit FIL.
Crack Shack. Jidori chicken served grilled, fried, or pollo asada. They cook their fries in schmaltz. The coleslaw is spiked with chiles and lime juice.
BB.Q Chicken --Korean fried chicken. Had some for the first time last week. Super
crispy and the meat isn’t dried out. Lots of flavor options. I like Kalbi.
I love a fried chicken sandwich and I will order it at local restaurants. We aren’t big on fast food unless we are on traveling. On our last drive we stopped at a Dave’s Hot Chicken. The menu is limited, I had both a slider and the chicken served on a piece of bread. I had mine with no spice, husband had hot. It was good and I’d stop again. I’ve not heard of most of the chains mentioned. I do want to try the Popeyes chicken sandwich but we don’t have one local. The one near my daughter always has a huge line.
I’m not getting the El Pollo Loco love. Many years ago when they first opened it was good but I think it’s gone downhill. We have a local place that has similar citrus marinated chicken served with beans, rice and tortilla or in burrito form. It’s higher quality chicken and we do pickup when I don’t feel like cooking.
