I'm actually learning the d minor concerto right now! The 3rd movement.

omgomgomg eating food-
Mozart 466 was my first concerto and is still BY FAR my favorite!!! I never thought I'd find someone else who loved it !!! :D

I also ADORE Tchaikovsky's first. (all for piano btw).
I also LOVE Ravel's concert in g major and Mendelssohn's in g minor

So glad I found this thread.

Mahler, and the score from The Mission. Total complete pwnage.

I really like this thread! I agree 100% with the rest of you guys. Mozart is amazing. My true classical music passion is... opera! I guess that kind of explains my username. Who here likes Wagner and Strauss operas? My favorite Wagner is hands down Tristan und Isolde. My favorite Strauss is a tie between Elektra and Daphne. Both show two totally different sides of the genius of Strauss.

Mozart's Clarinet Concerto is amazing. It was a bit challenging to learn but it is such a wonderful piece of music.

OMG, the prelude to Tristan and Isolde is AMAZING.

i second this

we're getting off topic....hahah
whatever. i guess i'll just name a few more pieces i love that aren't necessarily concertos.

^i love shosty 8 too.

isolde's liebestod is amazing (liszt-wagner transcription for piano)
gluck's dance of the blessed spirits (gluck melody transcription by sgambati)
verdi's la traviata - prelude
glinka's the lark (piano transcription by balakirev)
mahler 5. beethoven 9. mahler 2. tchaik 4. rach 3 (piano concerto). tchaik 1 (piano concerto)

can i just say that i LOVE brahms (chamber music and choral works).

just... wow.

Also, variations on a theme by rococo for cello by Tchaik!

Listen to "Marcia alla turca" and "Turkish March." Please.
[/quote]
Aren't those the same thing? o.O

haha nice catch- i think he meant rondo alla turca :)

^ Lol, I didn't even notice that, but what I mean is, I'm pretty sure "Rondo Alla Turca" and "Turkish March" are the same thing. ^_^

Schoenberg Piano Concerto, with Glenn Gould. Also the Bartok concertos, all of them. And the Liget Piano concertos. Wow, I guess some composers really feel at home with concerto style!

lol I think the problem is that there's two Turkish Marches- one by Beethoven and one by Mozart :) and i think marcia and rondo refer to the same piece.

My personal faves:
Dvorak Cello Concerto - best concerto as a whole
Elgar Cello Concerto (performed by du Pre of course)
Sibelius Violin Concerto = love
Bruch Violin Concerto - first mvt by Kyung Wha Chung
Rachmaninoff 2nd Piano Concerto - all rachmaninoff is amazing
Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto no. 1

Anyone wanna listen to my recording of the mendelssohn? I love it so much it makes me cry every time I hear it...

Yeah- I have my music supplement too.. if anyone would care to listen to it and tell me if it's good enough to send to top schools :)
