When you reminisce about your high school experience, what are some of the best memories that come to mind?

For me, oddly enough, I remember staying up for two nights in a row to finish my AP Studio Art portfolio. I had 6 pieces left to do and three days before the deadline, so I was just drawing and drawing and drawing.

At one point, I was working on an 18x24 ink piece and my gel ink pen went dry. My dad had to drive me to CVS at midnight while I hunted around madly for the EXACT brand of pen I was using, like a sleep-deprived loon. (In hindsight, I must have looked pretty hilarious. At the time, though, I was swimming in stress.)

Perhaps because it’s harder to “cram” for AP Studio Art then it is for, say, AP Government, that was the only 4 I made on an AP exam junior year. Still, surviving that entire ordeal gave me so much confidence, both as an artist and as a procrastination-inclined human being.

Hm…for me, there’s quite a few good ones. Some highlights:
Lettering as a freshman in diving.

Just about every day in French class.

Writing my Humanities Thesis on the tragic hero elements of Steven Moffat’s work in Doctor Who and Sherlock.

Watching Citizen Kane in Honors American Literature.

Taking the SAT while still hindered by mononucleosis, and not sleeping the night before, surviving solely on Mountain Dew. Yes, I do actually remember this day fondly.

I was the only junior in AP English, and the seniors had their last day of school a week before everyone else. So for the last week of school I just sat in the teacher’s room eating microwave popcorn and telling her what I was planning to do with my life.

Class discussions in English.

Staying after school until ten o’clock at night working on the musical in tenth grade.

AP Chemistry.

In Honors Biology, Freshman year, we had a big project called the “Human Body Book” and we were basically told to create a book that described the different systems within the human body and include diseases that impact that system, along with hand drawn images to accompany them. I decided to work with my best friend and she and I doled out parts ahead of time so that we wouldn’t be left with tons of last minute stuff to do… it didn’t work out.

The two of us stayed up all night the day before it was due, finishing everything up. That morning, I arrived at school at 5am (school starts at 8) and I remember calling her in a half-lit hallway, telling her to show up. She came and the two of us printed out everything and decorated the cover, and finally, it was done. We were both super stressed out and exhausted in every way, shape, and form, but we were so relieved to have finished.

We passed it in first period, and for the rest of the day, my friend took naps in her classes, while I was the lookout.

A month later, we found out we got a 100. I remember sending her an IM saying “Oh my GOD, we got a 100!” and then she was doing emotional backflips and so was I, and idk, it was just really nice. It was hellish at first, but then it turned out alright.

Another memory was during a Freshman year field trip to the Museum of Science, me and the boy I liked (who also happened to be a very close friend of mine at the time) - wandered off from the group/our history class and ended up doing this weird neuroscience experiment for MIT - we were subjects for this number line module and somehow, we lost track of time. We were gone for an hour and the teacher was flipping out. It was hilarious.

Everytime I go into my old physics class, old memories come to mind and new memories are made, too overwhelming.

Everyday in Japanese class when my teacher says that the English translation is not for slang usage.

I once had to interview a person I didn’t know at camp. I asked them what their favorite subject was. They answered “history”, but rambled on about Jesus and scientific evidence against Jesus. Idk why I find it funny and memorable.

Prom.

In freshman and sophomore year, I took these computer classes and I’m pretty sure 90% of the time in class we did nothing but sit on our computers for 2 hours. It was just so chill.

I TA for my AP Physics teacher, as do two of my best friends. A third friend is an Independent Study student at that time. The four of us are among that teacher’s favorite students, and it’s his plan period. We have an AWESOME time, almost all of my best memories come from this class. He brought us a pinata last week, he built us a tent to read in because one of my friends doesn’t like reading if she’s not in a tent. The teacher is really funny so even a normal day is really awesome.

In my biotech engineering class we were doing a project and needed spectrophotometers. They are all ancient and didn’t have an instruction manual, so we couldn’t figure out how to use it. We watched a video on youtube and realized one of our specs was broken. At the end of the video the guy gave his phone number and said to call if we had any spectrophotometer questions. So we did! It was an interesting conversation because the video was like 15 years old and the guy had no idea what we were talking about for a minute since it had been so long since he made the video.

I got extra credit in English for my poem about hating poetry.
