LOL Visual Basic.

Surely you jest!

LOLCODE. hello world is:

HAI
CAN HAS STDIO?
VISIBLE “HAI WORLD!”
KTHXBYE

Python’s pretty good too

Python. And Scheme. <3
Java is incredibly frustrating to use (especially graphics).

Java graphics took me at most an hour to master.

Java xD.

I was wondering if it was worth the trouble to learn C? Any opinions?

We biochemist love scripting in Perl. Dump Java and C++. I know some Java too though, I was curious about how hard it is to learn C too.

And I thought MIT would prefer the likes of Ada.

hahahahahah, well done meadow36!!! and thanks for going online!

I prefer C, then Java, since C has more potential and evolves into Objective C, Cocoa Programming and then either IOS 4 apps or mac apps, but java is much simpler, so depends on project

^what am I doing wrong when i quote?

you forgot the slash at the end box. /quote

C wasn’t that hard to learn, and has a ton of capabilities. I have preferential treatment, however, for OOP languages.

Then I can guarantee that you didn’t master them. The graphical capabilities of nearly any popular language are much too robust to master in an hour.

just curious how many of you kids can actually do stuff with programming languages? Its different to claim you know them but can most of you actually apply them? Because programming takes years to master you know.

Basics of Java graphics. That was a year ago. I do so many cool things now. My IA for Computer Science is going to be legit.

I’m a junior and I’ve been programming since I was in 6th grade, so I’d like to think I’m reasonably experienced. However, although I’m capable of writing programs to achieve a purpose, my methods aren’t anywhere near as efficient or elegant as those of more experienced programmers.

Hey, that’s as long as I’ve been programming. That’s awesome.

Is it? What language did you learn first?

Started off in C++. I didn’t get real in-depth with programming until I reached high school.

The graphics weren’t too difficult too difficult on Java. Although the rotation/AffineTransform mess was unnecessary… And this is why Python makes me mad.

I do some minor scripting here and there, mostly to understand math problems. It’s actually some of my favorite things to program. I started on Java around 8th grade and really didn’t go in-depth until about sophomore year.

Rotation’s a pain. A real pain.
I haven’t dealt with many scripting languages, what’s different about them?

No difference… I meant scripting as simple procedural programming.

Actually, I would say that it’s more difficult to know a programming language than it is to hack something together with one.

And I guess I can ‘do stuff’ with programming languages.
