looks like snow??? Last time we went to the open house it poured rain and we didn't do the campus tour. This time we will bundle up and ski if we have to! LOL. Anyway doing dinner the night before? We have 7 pm reservations at Cally's.

I'm going to Choices too, but I'm only two hours away so we are driving in the morning. What happens if it's nasty weather? Will they just make us all come to another one? I was really looking forward to it.

I can only assume it will go on as planned. The open house was a complete wash out but we did everything except the tour. I was hoping for good weather too.

rain is worse than snow though, we can still do the tour probably, and i am going up the night before, but do not have reservations at the restraunt because i wont be getting there til like 9

Feb. 16th is a music auditions day at JMU...uh oh. Glad mine is on the 14th.

FYI -- As of right now the local forecast for Harrisonburg is not calling for snow on 2/16. According to weatherbug.com there is a 40% chance of "frozen mix" on Saturday 2/14.... during the day -- "Mostly cloudy with a chance of rain and snow. Highs in the upper 30s. Chance of precipitation 40 percent. "

yes, we are keeping an eye on the extended forecast. It seems to change daily. Our weather update says sleet for Sunday and "Slight chance of light rain showers with snow showers. High 42F and low 24F. Air Quality: NA, UV Index: NA" but only 15% chance of any precip!! We have our fingers crossed.

So, the weather held out for CHOICES, although it was a bit nippy! How did you like JMU? My S was very impressed and left feeling like this could be the place for him! Very exciting!

a few flakes early on but nothing we couldn't handle!! My D had already made her decision to attend, so yesterday was just the cherry on the cake for her. I thought JMU did a wonderful job. We had dinner the night before at Cally's. They set things up so that a student ambassador ate with us. She answered all of our questions! The drive is the only issue we have, but D knows that weekend visits home just won't be possible for her.

Glad you enjoyed! We are in NJ, and without a car there doesn't seem to be a very direct way to travel home. Do you know what most kids do?

^^the only kids I know there have upperclassmen friends with cars; freshman year was very tough for friend's D; I think they travel to a town that has a bus/train...takes about 6-7 hrs by public transportation.

I thought JMU did a great job with the students lined up singing the fight song as we walked into the Convocation Center to random students giving us directions throughout the day. Plus we got to see all of the weather of Harrisonburg, from snow to sun! It defiantly makes my decision easier.

To Mom2009, my D is a freshman at JMU. We are an hour away so travel home is not a problem for us. Earlier in the year, a friend rode to Charlottesville with D to catch a train home to NJ. Another friend got a job with food services to pay for plane fare home to Oregon for spring break in a few weeks. I think if they want to come home bad enough, they can figure out a way to get there.

there is also a bus that goes from campus to exit 16 on the NJTP! You have to sign up early for that but it seems like a reasonable way to get home (except it only runs for Thanksgiving and spring break). I guess they all work it out somehow! I think my D friends will have his car next year (soph, off campus) so we may be ok!

hey guys how about the schol offers? how would they let s know if we were chosen for
a scholarship? wasn't th notification date like Feb 15th?

my son is a JMU freshman, we are OOS/NY. There is a bus/College Transit, not affiliated with the school. they have drop offs in NJ,NY,PA. They pick up on campus, and it is expensive, round trip 220.00. We have used it, this year. One time he did ride board, and that also works well. The bus runs for all major breaks, Thanksgiving,Christmas,Spring. The bus is one of those luxury buses, with TV's and bathrooms.

that's good to know! I didn't see Christmas break advertised on their web site. If all major breaks were covered that would be a tremendous help!!
Thanks so much!
