I happened to visit Vassar’s home page this evening and noticed the Black History Month tribute to the “known” African American students to graduate. To understand why I put known in quotes, you should read the article.
As a parent who has trepidation about seeing our baby going off to college in the fall, it is little things like the BHM homepage that telegraph to diverse students, and their parents, that Vassar is a welcoming place.
I’m still not ok with our child leaving the nest, but I’m sure feeling good about where she’s going when she does.
My baby went off to Vassar last autumn- and has settled in so, so happily- on every level. It did take a little time to find her feet, but when we visited on parent’s weekend, it was obvious that she was finding her way . I hope yours has the same experience.
Every article they have put up so far this month has been interesting. The one they put up today is a fascinating first hand account of one student’s experience in the late 60s and early 70s. An excellent read!
