Congrats to everyone admitted to the class of 2012, and especially to the Feb admits! I'm so excited to have been admitted as a Feb :) Who else on CC is a Feb? Are you planning on coming to Midd? What are you going to do in the fall?

I got in as a feb! but I didn't even check off that box...

Wow, that's sort of strange! Well I guess they thought you'd be a good fit as a Feb. I did check the box because I was really hoping to be a Feb.

s admitted for Feb, feels rejected since "only" Feb admit..
accepted at UC Berkeley, now waiting for some ivys..but that's hard..
waitlisted for JHU which he thought was a safety

calmomof3 - my D just graduated in the Feb class of '07.5 and the fall semester before she started at Midd was one of the highlights of her life thus far. It is an amazing opportunity for your S to step off the treadmill and do absolutely anything that interests him. The school does a great job of welcoming the Febs and they regard them as anything but rejects. They have stated in the past that they only admit Febs who they think can handle coming in mid-year - the extroverts and out of the box thinkers. It's a compliment really!

FAQ:
"Am I perceived to be as well qualified as those admitted for the fall semester?

You sure are! It's important to remember that nearly 20% of our students enroll at mid-year, so we need your group to be strong to keep Middlebury strong. Don't tell the kids admitted for September, but the group of students entering in the spring actually has a history of achieving higher GPA's than the group enrolling in the fall. We also find it interesting that the Febs (that's what they're called around here) have historically held a disproportionately high percentage of the leadership roles on campus.

Why do you think that's the case?

We're not exactly sure, but it may have to do with the kind of student who feels comfortable enrolling at mid-year. Students willing to wait a semester to enroll obviously have a strong desire to be here, so they might arrive with an unusually strong desire to engage in all facets of campus life. Febs are also students who see this option as an opportunity - not a burden. They see an opportunity to enroll which might not otherwise exist and they see opportunities to pursue some interesting things during the fall."

I totally agree with Puzzled88. My son is a Feb '11.5 and is having the time of his life! When we went to Admitted Students Day last April, everyone made a really big deal about being a Feb and all the professors/staff etc kept saying, "We love the Febs!" and I couldn't understand why. But the moment he stepped on campus in Feb for orientation, the previous Febs were hooting and hollering and led a 5 day orientation that was full of high energy fun! Even now, he still says you can tell the Febs by their "glow" and how happy they are! It's a very special program filled with unique and interesting kids from all over the place...All of you Febs should take it as a compliment! And enjoy your semester off!

I got in as a Feb!! It was a reach, too!

terryw - if you thought the Feb orientation was fun, just wait until he finishes and you attend the Feb celebration. Everyone we know is very jealous that my D "graduated" on skis. Watching them fly down the mountain in their caps and gowns was hilarious.

That graduation sounds awesome! Does anyone know how it is for Febs when they first come? -- in terms of adjusting and making friends. Do Febs make friends with Sept. students pretty quickly?

My D said that for the first semester her friends were mostly Febs but after that she knew people in all different classes. Some of her closest friends graduated a year or more before her and some are still there.

I'm a Feb as well. I'm excited to meet you all!
I wasn't planning on being a Feb, but my friends at Midd said that with my interests/academics, I most likely fit into a Feb class. So, I suppose I was half-expecting it... I'm so glad to have the time off before college, though! Any plans for the febmester?
