I had $1300 Academic Competitiveness Grant in my financial aid package and its status was confirmed. It hasn't been paid to my cars account so I called the financial aid office and the lady who answered the phone said she'll look into it. An hour later, I got an email from her saying that I am not eligible for that award because my GPA after the first semester was below 3.0. I went on the federal student aid website and found the following:

To be eligible for each academic year, a student must:

* be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen;
* be a Federal Pell Grant recipient for the same award year;
* be enrolled at least half-time in a degree program;
* be a first-year or second-year undergraduate student or a student in a certificate program of at least one year in a degree program at a two-year or four-year degree granting institution;
* have completed a rigorous secondary school program of study (after January 1, 2006, if a first-year student, and after January 1, 2005, if a second-year student); and
* if a first-year student not have been enrolled in an ACG-eligible program while at or below age of compulsory school attendance; or
* if a second-year student have at least a cumulative 3.0 grade point average (GPA) on a 4.0 scale as of the end of the first year of undergraduate study.

It says students must have a 3.0 after the first year of undergraduate study. Since I had a good GPA my second semester, my GPA after the first year is above 3.0. I went to office and after waiting in line for like two hours, they told me that I'm not eligible because I became a sophomore after my first semester (I had AP units). Is there anyway I can get my grant back?

Oh, and the reason why I had a low GPA first semester was because I failed a class. But I took that class again the next semester so the failed grade isnt even calculated into my UC GPA anymore, can they still use it to determine my eligibility for this grant?

Any help would be appreciated
