Federal Aid and Living off campus...

If I recieve federal aid, say, the Pell Grant, and I choose to live off campus, would I be able to use the aid from that grant to pay the rent? Or does it only go so far as to cover on campus housing? I'm pretty sure that it would be cheaper for me to live off campus, after much research, but it'd just be pointless if my federal aid disappears because of it. Thanks!

It is most likely tht if you have federal aid that it is first going to cover any expenses that you owe the school, ex. tuition (since they are given the $$)

IF there is any money left over that money is returned to you. Keep in mind when living off campus land lords require the rent and security and this happens weeks (sometimes months) before your aid is processed. They will not "wait" until you get your Pell refund.

Also check the policy at your school. Some schools do not provide aid for off-campus housing and other school will not disburse more than the cost of on campus room.
