Federal and State Financial Aid Funding Satisfactory Academic Progress

I know that I have to maintain a 2.0 cumulative GPA to keep my financial aid but when do they take it away? Like if I get a GPA under 2.0 my very first quarter (I'm a freshman) I know I get placed on Financial Aid Probation. Do I have to pay for the first quarter/next quarter of college because I went under 2.0 or will I get one quarter (rest of the year?) to get my grade up above 2.0?

Thanks.

If you got under a 2.0 GPA, you likely did not pass a course. Or you got a very low grade in at least one course. You need to satisfy YOUR schools SAP requirements. Call them and ask.

Your school is the only place where you can get a definitive answer about their SAP policy.

Each school has their own SAP policy which usually includes not only a minimum GPA requirement, but a requirement that you successfully complete a certain % of all classes attempted. If your GPA is under a 2.0 then have you actually failed some classes?

Some schools will put you on FA probation for a semester and give you the opportunity to meet SAP. Others may take away aid but let you appeal. You will need to ask your school.

If you are put on probation make sure you meet all the requirements of the probation. If you don’t then you will lose aid until you bring your record up to where it meets SAP.

most schools will list the SAP %, GPA, and policy in the catalog. Check the print copy or online version for your school.

I probably won’t get under a 2.0 or fail some classes but there is a chance. I was too ambitious and tried a quarter of pre-engineering but I am switching out. WORST case (estimated) I will get about a 1.4 in Calc II, 1.3 in Chem I and 3.5 in Psychology, which puts me with a cumulative GPA of about a 2.0. I would expect something like 2.0, 1.5, 3.7 respectively. Failing is under 0.7 and I believe I won’t get that low.
